We enjoyed our weekend at YiYe Retreat. Check in was a little strenuous because of all the new COVID-19 regulations but after 30 minutes we were all done and taken to our superb room on the second floor. No TV but a huge wall window to admire the surroundings. The room was very well appointed and C.O. Bigelow products in the bathroom were definitely a nice touch! Room cleaning was made on the first day but not on the second. For that price I expect my room to be cleaned and refreshed daily, especially during Chinese humid summers. Food at the retreat is vegan and made from scratch using ingredients locally sourced. Breakfast is included in the price but be aware that it is Chinese so pack some snacks if you don't like that. Coffee is available but you will have to pay for it. We truly enjoyed our wholesome dinners at YiYe (100rmb/ person), the food was healthy and packed with flavour. As much as we liked the location (20 minutes away from the city) I think that it is more convenient if you have your own vehicle to move around freely. We didn't, so we walked in that area on both days. You can reach the bamboo forest if you turn on the right, after a walk through the quiet village. If instead you turn on the left you will at one point reach a concrete walking path that leads to a huge reservoir. But there isn't much to see as the reservoir is surrounded by a high fence. Not worth the effort! It would be a good idea for the hotel to have bikes available for guests. Also be aware that there isn't any supermarkets or restaurants that can be reached by foot. The retreat itself is gorgeous with lots of very interesting details, following the zen philosophy. I would stay there again as it makes for a perfect quiet gateway from Shanghai.…
