We stayed in a igloo room for 3 nights. The look out of the city and the icebergs is really wonderful. The breakfast was good but: 1. Our check in was delayed in 30 minutes 2. Although we asked for a double bed, there were 2 singles 3. To reach the city you can get the hourly van of the hotel (last going down 5h40 PM, last coming up 6PM), walk for 25 minutes or get a taxi for 8 USD. 4. The restaurant was very expensive and not very good, so you need to go to the city to have dinner, and you have to take a taxi 5. No wifi in the igloos 6. No gym at the hotel 7. Not enough hot water for a shower, so we needed to wait for 5-10 min to warm it in the middle of it. 8. The igloo was a little far from the hotel (200m) with stairs and although having 4 big cases, there was no one to help us. 9. In the last day, nobody came to make our room!!!! I told the reception to tell the manager. So far, not a single word from him apologizing. How come people call it a 4 star hotel???…
We are independent travellers from the UK, who came here after seeing it featured on a travel programme. It took two days and three flights to get here, but worth it, even after getting stuck at Kangerlassaq airport for 5 hours. There are five igloos. Probably numbers 4 & f5 are the best, as they are at the very front, overlooking Disko Bay. The exterior is metal and the interior lined with wood. Tiny and basic. Two small, short, single beds. Table & chairs. Sink, fridge & kettle. Tiny bathroom with shower (which gets the whole room wet when you use it) and toilet. Very warm. Disappointing in that you have to stand up to look at the views. Would have been better if the window went lower down. A boardwalk & steps takes you from the main hotel to the igloos. A bit of a stuggle suitcases. An unusual experience though. Also stayed in a standard room in the main hotel for part of the time - reviewed separately.…
It was a dream trip for my mother and she decided to take 'her children' along :0) what a trip! Unfortunately there was a mix up in our reservation however in conversation with our travel agent who luckily happened to be there everything was sorted out and we got upgraded at the Arctic Hotel. Not in the igloos but into a jr. suite and super deluxe room. Everything from the rooms the friendly staff and the main restaurant was just lovely...food great being a vegan/vegetarian it is difficult but I had many lovely dishes to rival my meat eating family. For the carnivores Bbq is a must as well as their seafood buffet...I do believe whale as well as shark is on the menu...an acquired taste (so I am told) but then again it is Greenland and somethings are steeped in tradition. The staff at the hotel are polite, courteous and smile when ever you pass them in the halls or at the reception. The hotel was a haven of modern, peace, warmth and great food to revert back to after various excursions. And the shuttle bus is very prompt and accommodating to transport you to the town and meeting points. If I return to Greenland and Ilulissat this is the place I would return to.…
I wrote a pretty extensive review under the Hotel Arctic page please check there for further detail. The igloos, all five of them, are nice, quiet, bright thanks to a skylight with no cover and maybe a little on the small side. But, but, but, there is one big plus, that being a much better upclose and personal view of the bay full of ice! If you value roominess more than the view choose the hotel proper. Otherwise happy igloo time!
