It is very difficult to put into words our experience at Bayete Zulu Private. From the moment you arrive you feel like you have stepped into the Garden of Eden. The lodge is absolutely magical. You could spend all day just sitting on the deck watching the waterhole and you will see something new every few minutes. There is an abundance of bird life and at any one time you can expect 10 to 15 Nyala walking around. We chose self catering but our cook Bongani, made our groceries into gourmet meals and the the lovely ladies did all the cleaning in the kitchen and the rooms, so as the Mom of this trip I didn't need to lift a finger. The rooms were immaculate, more than we could have asked for, beautiful outside bathrooms with massive bath and shower, but also inside bathrooms should that be your preference. However the highlight of our trip was our guide / ranger - Louise (who is also part of the management couple for Bayete Zulu Private). She is on of the most knowledgeable guides I have ever met, she was easily able to interact with my husband and I (in our 50's and 60's) but just as easily interacted with my sons (age 19 and 21). They absolutely adored her and she is the first person they have listened to so intently for a long time. She has such brilliant people skills and knows what each person needs / wants. The drives were spectacular, lions passing by the vehicle so closely we could hear a lioness breathe, Elephants so close we could touch them (we didn't in case you were wondering!!). A serval that we watched for over 15 minutes. But also 50 bird species including Bateleurs and Secretary Birds, cheetah, rhino, waterbuck, giraffe in their droves, kudu etc and down to the small chameleons and different spiders, Louise has a ton of information on each animal / bird / tree etc. This is her happy place and if you just leave it in her capable hands she will give you a bush experience of a life time. 4 days later and our family are still missing her and her piece of paradise.If you ever get the pleasure of meeting her ask her to tell you about the "dead dog tree". If we were able to this would be our first choice for every vacation that we took going forward.

We verbleven met ons gezin (3 tieners) in dit kleine paradijs. Elk kind had zijn eigen huisje. Vanaf de eerste tot de laatste minuut werden we als VIP behandeld zonder dat het vervelend werd.
De locatie is absoluut top en de service eveneens. Tristan en zijn team hebben hun uiterste best gedaan om ons van elk moment te laten genieten. Ook de maaltijden waren top.
Onze ranger was een bijzonder fiere man met kennis van de dieren en planten. In no-time hadden we de Big Five gespot. Niet dat dit ons doel was, maar wel leuk meegenomen.

I was very disappointed in the whole experience. We arrived early on an extremely hot day and were told we could not go to the lodge but to drive back to the N2 and have lunch at the Baobab INN!!! This wqs not a great start and only when I insisted the all we wanted was a bit of shade and some cold water did Shona agree to let us go to the lodge. Her manner was not great. She did later apologise via whatsapp to my husband. The lack of customer service continued throughout the four days we did not see her once during the four days other than 5 minutes when we arrived . The food was not good although plentiful and no choice except breakfast. The communication about times of drives meals etc was not communicated well. The guide quite honestly talked too much he needs to understand that he does not have to fill the silence with chatter, many people go to the bush for the peace and quiet. The sad part about this is the position of the lodge is beautiful on the edge of a lagoon and the lodge staff very friendly, it lavks management.

We absolutely enjoyed our stay here in December. Louise and Tristan were the perfect hosts and we enjoyed every aspect of this venue and their services.
The accommodations were modern, well appointed and very comfortable. We enjoyed our delicious meals, breakfast on the scenic patio and dinners indoors were all wonderful.
The benefit of being in a smaller private reserve with just our own friends is that we got to pick what time we wanted to leave in the morning for our early safari drives. Being on vacation and getting up at 4 AM at other locations wasn’t very restful, and we very much appreciated getting to decide when to leave in the mornings at Bayete Private Reserve.
The baboons on or near our verandahs woke us up at daybreak, however, and we could see lots of wildlife surrounding our individual cabins — including “Wooly” in the property’s small lake.
Thank you to Louise for all the insightful information she shared with us on our drives, it was so evident that she absolutely loves what she does all day long. We sincerely appreciated everything she did for us.

From the highly professional staff to the clean and luxurious rooms we were absolutely delighted with our stay. The knowledgeable ranger and many sightings of the full big 5 during the 3 day stay meant a very rewarding and awesome experience. We will be back!
