We were here for the Kailash Kora and stayed at this hotel. It was a horrible experience. Let me start by clarifying why there are so many diverse reviews on this hotel. It is because there are two sides to this hotel, one on the right side of the hotel that we well done up. for upscale tourists, and the second on the left of the reception that is still under construction for the cheap mass tourists, mainly Indian, on a budget. We were lucky enough (ugh!) to stay on both sides. We started on the budget section, it is a horrible dirty room, dirty sheets, no heat, barely running water, threadbare and stained towels (we opted not to shower) and smelly room. This fits with all the really bad reviews you see on here. We had to go down and ask for soap, and they were reluctant to give us a small bar of soap till our guide intervened. We then stayed at the upscale, (not really but our expectations were below zero at this point) side and things improved. The room and carpet was cleaner, the towels usable, the water was still barely warm and only at certain periods of the day. But it was significantly better than the previous experience. Overall, the options here are limited, the hotel is quite miserable, and I realize that we are in a very remote land, but this does nothing to enhance tourism to this region. The government, this is a government run hotel, should be embarrassed that this is how one of the holiest pilgrimages is being represented. Rather than enhance growth, they are stifling tourism to this region, other than the mass Indian bus-loads of tourists that are on a budget. My advice is that if you do choose to book here, insist that your agent book early and confirm, repeatedly that you are on the upscale side, not the urgent side.

This hotel is the best available in this place mainly built for the Kailash Mansarover Yatris. But maintenance is very bad. It may soon turn into a scrap place. Service is poor, in fact the hotel staff is rude and dont behave properly. Language problem is there. Dont expect any room service

The facade and the location of the Hotel is good. Many shops nearby where you can buy gift items and essential supply. As soon as you step out of the Hotel, weather permitting, you get a grand view of the Mount Kailash. Having said that, hygiene and cleanliness were definitely not their plus point. The housekeeping staff appeared to pretend to be cleaning the room. One actually was tempted to do carbon dating of the rubbish in the room, to find out when it was properly cleaned last. Their refusal to change the bathing towels was amazing. For a four bedded room they insisted on giving only two towels. On shifting to a double bedded room, they rudely refused to change the towels on a daily basis. While language may have been a problem, the housekeeping staff, the people at the reception etc were not bothered about the guests, most of the times they were busy talking to each other. Surprisingly for people in the so called hospitality business, their 'NO' for everything was downright unreasonable and rude.

Whilst I appreciate that we cannot be overly fussy in this area and it is a good location for Mt Kailash, sadly we had a poor experience as well: Due to these reasons: - Dirty rooms, hairs on sheets so clearly hadn't been cleaned/changed (shudder), dirty bathroom - Freezing cold! Okay there is an electric blanket at least for when you want to sleep but when it is not bedtime, just uncomfortable! And it was only early Sept! - WiFi just didn't work in the room, okay in hall if you log into one network with password - Confusing layout, had to ask twice to find our rooms - Poor breakfast options. Again not meaning to be fussy but as a traveller with long days ahead... Plus points - Some food options across the road - Proximity to Mt Kailash and beautiful views of Himalayas as well Fingers crossed Management can improve on this basic points (cleanliness and heating) for future travellers to amazing Tibet!
