Unreasonable "entrance fee" somewhat ruined the experience

Visited the bay in mid-June 2022. The unreasonable and exorbitant "entrance fee" somewhat ruined the experience of visiting the stunning bay.

First of all, it is a public place and the local authorities do not charge people (local and abroad) for visiting the place (already done fact-check with the local tour guide).

There are 2 "entrances" before reaching the bay area. The local folks living in that area guard that 2 entrances. They charge people for a total of IDR40,000 (at time of writing) i.e. IDR20,000 for passing each post. For my case, they charged IDR20,000 per vehicle for passing each post.

DO NOT even think of eating at the restaurant in the bay area. God knows how would they charge for the meal.

Gem in little city

Its like a Gem , very clear water, quit, but when i go there . there is a big grafity in the cliff......very annoying .....

The best beach in Flores

Koka beach is a bit rough to get to and the area is quite simple but the beach itself is amazing. Powdery soft white sand, impressive jungle hillsides that look a bit like a cross between Nusa Penida and Ora Beach in the Malluku's on a slightly less grand scale. This is one stop on a trans-Flores itinerary that is well worth making! Climb up the hill between the two beaches for amazing views.

Blasius restaurant and room

We have been to Koka Beach before and eaten at Blasius’ restaurant which is still excellent. Fresh grilled fish, rice and vegetable plus fresh fruit. Right on the beach. This time we stayed in the new little cabins he has built. They are very basic and could be quite hot. Just up the hill, but with lovely views and an attached bathroom with sit on toilet (but you flush it yourself by pouring water down). It was clean and there is electricity from a generator in the evening. If you are up for it, it’s fantastic. Early morning on the beach by ourselves. Truly magic.

Unfortunately Full of Plastic

The beach has the potential to be one of the best beaches in Indonesia. Unfortunately, due to a dirty beach full of plastic garbage, you won't even feel like swimming in the water. The government and local people need to take initiative to clean the beach regularly. Most importantly proper education regarding plastic and waste management system is highly required.

Very worth it !

Its not that hard to get to at all, its off the main road from Kelimutu to Maumere. And definetly worth to stay a night ! The huts owned by Blasius are very very simple like expected in a place like this, but at least he has water and electricity unlike the other huts, so stay with him please. 200.000 rp a night.The water is clean , beach is good ( of course rubbish after sundays when the locals hit the beach ) so try to avoid sundays. Weekdays you have the whole place to yourself. Food is good and Blasius takes good care of you. We slept with all the doors and windows open listening to the beautiful sound of the waves and looking at the stars in the sky. Stay in the highest hut up on the hill. Incredible view.

Koka Beach is een verborgen paradijs

Een van de mooiere en rustigere stranden, met mooi wit zand. Een beetje exotisch, een verborgen paradijs. Een mooie kustlijn, met twee grote rotsen. Op de rots een mooi uitkijkpunt. Bij de kraampjes aan het strand kun je wat kopen of een drankje doen. De binnenweg naar het strand heeft een erg slecht wegdek, vol met gaten.

Beautiful bay

Even though the drive to KOKA Beach is not easy it’s worth going. The beaches are stunning with clear water and only few people. You can climb the little hill for IDR 5.000 for a breathtaking view. Unfortunately, there is also a bit of trash everywhere.
