Really don’t mean to sound negative because it is beautiful country and the scenery is pretty. I think with all the other hiking one could do in Norway this is at the bottom of my list.
After the 3 prior days of major hiking we wanted something low key, just a walking path. The Waterfall Path we thought was going to fit the bill so we did the 6km Oppedal path. But here is my take on it.
We did not enjoy it for a few reasons. First of all the path is a livestock trail. Yes I understand Norway has open country with free range animals. Since this trail runs through, I assume private farming land owners, their livestock roam free. Well the livestock love to use the hiking trail for their own trail. For the whole 6km the trail was littered with cow pies and sheep dung in which we encountered both animals on this trail.
It had also been several days without rain yet so much of the trail was so marshy. Yes I’m a wimp, for this hike we were looking for something easy. What makes Norway so lush is the rain and streams running out of nowhere, but what really made this worse was the livestock. When you have 1500 lbs cows or 150 lb sheep walking through marshy areas it really tears up the path causing the water not drain but cause puddles and small pond areas where you are supposed to walk.
The scenery was pretty and the trail was well marked. To us it wasn’t worth the time because you are always looking to avoid poop and are constantly rerouting the trail because of the marshy areas.

We started our trail at likholefossen steel bridge at 2pm.
We walked downhill for approximately 6 km till oppedal and it took us 3 hrs.
We crossed many waterfalls, spend some time and clicked photos along the edges of water falls. It was great to experience, waterfalls in such close proximity.
Sound of water was along us, during entire trail.
We crossed farmlands, cows and small village.
Trail was well marked by red F, however it was muddy and slippery due to previous rains.
Only negative point was that we had to go back to our car at likholefossen bridge, by road ( approximately 4 km).
There is one person name Hov, just before bridge. He gives rides uphill and downhill starting point, then one can start the trail and reach till parking place. He is available only in mornings at 10 am.

Man sollte rutschfeste Schuhe anhaben.

Although it has been raining almost all day, this is a fantastic hike. It took us longer then the 5 hours announced on websites and in the information center, probably due to the very, very slippery trail while walking back to the valley. Coming down took us almost as much time as going up, certainly between waterfall 4 and 2.

Walking the woods and finally reaching the waterfall after picnics en route was breathtaking - yet peaceful - a must do.
There are easy walks for the less able - just as stunning

I traveled solo with my dog and we loved it.
We arrived from Gaularfjellet view point and camped by Hov Hyttegrend. I enjoy the sceneries down the road and next morning we hiked downstream instead(as i thought the waterfalls would get bigger). Anyways, don't expect Niagara ;) It's more like a rapid stream in the part we did. It took around 6hrs to complete it and 2hrs to walk back to the camp by walking on the road. I enjoyed that very much because it gave me view of the mountains around.
I would definitely recommend high waterproof shoes and good quality hiking pants. The grass at places is high and you'll get wet. The hike goes trough forest and farms, small bridges and is very beautiful.
Watch your dog cuz there's sheeps around and you don't want a upset a local farmer I suppose.
You can have a cabin if you prefer its 200kr per night i think but I did had my tent so didn't bother(quite wet along the river so it took me some time to find a decent place). However the cabin camp was great and offers, toilets, showers etc.
If you stay there you can also catch a ride for 40kr/pers at 10am which brings up or downstream and you just hike the distance back to your vehicle.
Totally awesome place!!!

Geweldig.

The driving tour of the waterfalls was lovely. However, it was a little scary at times driving on the super narrow and winding roads!!!!!
