I visited this museum out of curiosity. I enjoyed learning about hurricane Katrina affected New Orleans. I loved getting to see the Mardi Gars costumes and floats. I would definitely come back.

The Hurricane Katrina visit was absolutely heart-breaking. To see the walls that man used like a journal & a garage door that was used to mark who/what was found dead or alive...just made me want to cry right there. Yes, we were in NOLA for fun, but we were also there to learn & this was a necessary part of that education.
The Mardi Gras exhibit was fantastic! They even had the drawing of the costumes design by San Nicholas & some of the costumes, which are larger than life!

A museum in two distinct parts; Mardi Gras and Floods & Hurricanes with the emphasis on Katrina.
Excellent intro to history of Mardi Gras, its customs, floats, masquerade balls. Some fabulous outfits.
The existence of Zulu blackface to this day is amazing. Guardianistas would be up in arms!
The part on hurricanes was amazing with a number of great films.
There were certainly many heroes and villains with expert predictions that were ignored.
Astonishing to see houses still being built of wood!
Great side exhibition of costumes of San Nicholas.
Didn't notice total cost or number of lives lost.
Film at end not that interesting. Overall a stunning museum.

Amazing museum for $7!
A museum of two halves….downstairs about Hurricane Katrina / upstairs Mardi Gras.
Well laid out museum with lots to see, very educational.
Katrina part was so interesting - learned a lot about why NOLA was so devestated.
Mardi Gras exhibitions were amazing - explained history of the carnival. The San part was wonderful - beautiful costumes and designs.
The museum is so spacious and I had it practically all to myself.
Lovely receptionist - so welcoming and friendly.
I’d visit again to spend more time 100%

Visited on our last day in New Orleans and so glad we did. Striking images from Hurricane Katrina and interactive stations for the kids to learn about hurricanes. Upstairs the costumes and images from Mardi Gras were beautiful!

This is totally worth going to. Two main exhibits - Katrina and Mardis Gras. We got through in about 1-2 hours. Both exhibits are excellent and we enjoyed them. The Katrina one is especially moving. Mardis Gras has beautiful costumes. This was a great stop on our NOLA trip. Air conditioned and a nice break from the heat. Easy location on Jackson Square. We went with teenagers who found it interesting.

This is in the Jackson Square area and is a museum focusing on Hurricane Katrina and Mardis Gras. The hurricane part was quite interesting. And the Mardis Gras part was informative, with many beautiful displays of costumes and photography. It only took about 30-40 minutes to check this out, and I felt it was worth it. Nice, clean bathrooms and near other places of interest

This museum is easy to miss but please make time to visit. You will about 1.5 - 2 hours to visit.
The bottom floor is a Hurricane Katrina exhibit and the top floor is a Mardi Gras exhibit. They were both quintessential New Orleans and well interpreted.
Bathrooms were spacious and clean.

Expect to spend about an hour at this museum.
Bottom floor focuses on Hurricane Katrina, while the top covers the history of Mardi Gras.
I feel that the Katrina exhibit could eventually be expanded into its own museum. The information on display just scratches the surface of the hurricane’s impact on New Orleans. An emotional museum reminiscent of the OKC Memorial could be achieved here.
The Mardi Gras exhibit includes quite a few colorful costumes. Definitely an eye-catching and photogenic display.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Katrina and Mardi Gras exhibits in this gorgeous building. The Katrina exhibit was so informative, engaging and interactive. The combination of photos, artifacts, videos and hands on displays provided an immersive exhibit. My husband and I had watched extensive news coverage when it happened but our 19 year old had only heard of Katrina and learned so much from the displays. It was interesting learning about the science behind why this was a somewhat man made disaster. The second exhibit on Mardi Gras was also amazing. The costumes on display were incredible. We almost didn’t go here on our trip but am so glad we went. I think this should be a must do on a visit to New Orleans.

How much time should we allow at this museum? Is one hour enough?

Thanks for visiting the Presbytere! There are two distinct exhibits at the museum, the first floor focuses on hurricane Katrina and is very interactive. The second floor's focus is on Mardi Gras. You could see it on an hour, but you might want to allocate more time as the Katrina exhibit is very interesting.
