This park is not something you want to miss, it's big and beautiful, with a beautiful sculpture garden and the trees are a wonderful. So many paths to explore and activities for all ages

I started visiting the park in the 1950's as my mother did in the 30's. What always struck me the most is some of the structures and statues are from the age of the Tartaria. The Tartarian architecture is easy to spot especially the structure with the columns and lions by the water.

My wife and I took a Lyft to the park to see the Botanical Gardens. We were bewitched by the beautiful ancient live oak trees and spanish moss. Even on a hot day, we felt cool enough in the shade. Cafe dumond was a great stop on the way to the gardens. A few locals were fishing in the pond and caught a few frogs that they showed us. Friendly people, and beautiful scenery make the city park a must-see for anyone visiting New Orleans.

It's easy to spend several hours here. My favorite park was spending some time with the Singing Oak. The trees were definitely my favorite part.

Took my three kids & we had so much fun! They climbed trees, we rode bikes, there’s a playground & Cafe du Monde is right there. It’s so beautiful! We visited almost every day we were in town. I got so many great pics, but I know there’s so much more that I didn’t see!

This is like the Central Park of New Orleans. There is an amusement park, but it is geared toward kids younger than mine. There are beautiful trees and areas of water. There are also family swings and playgrounds. There is also a Cafe Du Monde location here which was better than the one in the French Quarter.

City Park is a beautiful green space with plenty of places to run (I ran 4.5 miles one morning) and lots to see in an evening. We visited cafe du monde for a late night coffee and beignet. Love the free parking.

I could have spent hours here! So beautiful! We walked around the sculpture garden and couldn't get my family to walk anymore because it was so hot! We ended up driving around to see more and then enjoyed our stop at Cafe Du Monde in the park. So glad we went!

Yes, one can bicycle throughout most of the park.
Especially in the front section of the park, closest to City Park Ave, there is lots of shade too.

Not sure about a festival, but there’s some free music evenings included on the New Orleans City Park website on their events calendar (called “Evenings with Enrique”)

Left side of Lelong Drive and in NOLA Museum of Art. But the Park has also many atractions to see. Have good time!

How long does it typically take to view the city park Christmas lights?

About 2 hours from the time you arrive ... In addition to the lights in the botanical garden area you may want to explore the stage areas for Karaoke, Local groups/choirs singing, a stop in their cafe (try the gumbo!) and Storyland (great for kids of all ages) the kid's amusement park which included the Flying Horses (Carousel) and the optional train ride under the stars, oaks and lights. Parking is limited, so plan a little extra time to get to and from your vehicle. Some tour companies offer bus transportation which drops you right at the main entrance.

I don’t know, but if it helps, the park is at the end of one of the streetcar lines that runs the length of canal street, so it is not hard to get to from the hotels located in the french quarter and downtown area.
