The Seaport district is situated on the East River in Lower Manhattan. It is a top nyc destination for unusual culinary, fashion, entertainment and cultural experiences. I couldn't resist a custom face cookie from the funny face bakery....it seemed almost too pretty to eat and the book-worm in me nudged me into the McNally & Jackson bookstore. I explored New York's origins as a world seaport in the South Street Seaport Museum and to get into a historical mood I toured the Wavetree cargo ship.

Historic waterfront section that has been gentrified. There was a food tour restaurants are different price points. Now everything is just very pricey with the entrées $35-$100 per plate.
Had a couple of drafts for $25 at the Sapphire Chase bar & recharged our phones. Tables & ground were dirty.

I had not been to South Street Seaport since I was probably ten (10) or eleven (11) years old. From my childhood, I remember the restaurants and my meal of steamed clams. It was really interesting to go back to this free attraction over twenty (20) years later. The area felt safe to me and it was full of shops and upscale dining options. There were also boat tours nearby. The views of Lower Manhattan, Downtown Brooklyn, and the Brooklyn Bridge were fantastic. It was nice to walk on the piers during a hot early April afternoon. Yet, it is difficult to get parking in this area, especially if one is looking for free parallel parking on the street. It is easy to walk from South Street Seaport to the Battery, to Chinatown, or to Wall Street.

Несколько причалов у Пирса 17 вряд ли можно назвать морским портом. Тем не менее, нас привезли сюда с автобусной экскурсией и рассказали об этом припортовом районе, где можно купить свежую рыбу и покушать в рыбных ресторанчиках.

Um dos bairros mais vivos de New York. Centrinho histórico bem preservado, boas opções de restaurante e menos caro do que outros lugares da ilha.

A nice area to walk around among old historic buildings away from the steel skyscrapers. But most of the buildings are trendy shops and restaurants. The seaport museum itself has a fee to enter as well as the historic ships that are moored here.

Lots of little pubs and restaurants, and little parks with walkways. Strolling around the piers was really nice and it gives a relaxing vibe. Still lots to take in and some different views of the city.

Wonderful place to visit and watch the boats. The NYC skyline is beautiful. The boat tour was wonderful and the narrator was much like a "one-man" show. His knowledge of the sites was incredible. The boat was comfortable and the snacks and drinks were affordable. This was truly a magical experience and something that needs to be done when visiting NYC.

Lots of little streets to stroll around, shops to pop in & out of, little cafes & restaurants. It is no where near a busy as the rest of the city so a great way to spend sometime when in manhattan.

I am very much interested in architecture. South Street Seaport is the best place fior its oldest architecture. Curiosity level generated so much to know about that I got searched on google for best website. One of my friend suggested to to visit govisitnyc for more details. If you know any such site then please suggest?

My review details all there is to see and do as of this month. The only part still under construction is the pier, which will open as an upscale mall later this year.
As it currently stands, the Seaport is a half-day destination if you take advantage of the restaurants, shops, and museums.

Its an open plaza and its best to sit outside on nice evenings. Most restaurants have outside seating options.

Were the restaurants opened? Have a group going there tomorrow and need this info quickly. They are going there for lunch and I've been told lots of shops and restaurants are closed.

I was in central Manhattan when went to the Seaport. I am not well knowledgeable in moving around outside that area. When I do it I usually take a taxi. Taxis are not so expensive in NY. I would advise to do that. Success.

I would say go to Grand Central Station and take a 4, 5 or 6 subway to Cortland Street (connects with Fulton Street) and walk east on Fulton Street until you get to the South Street Seaport. You could also get off the subway at Wall Street and wend your way east through some interesting streets and buildings. Enjoy!
