Beautiful shady hiking trail lined with ferns, wildflowers and many huge trees. Very hilly. We saw a tiny black mouse close to the trail, scurrying around and digging in the soil. Couldn’t get a photo of his entire body.

Well worth a visit if you fancy a couple of hours of peace and quiet amongst huge old trees.

The trails are well marked, and easy to walk on, but it's not a busy spot - even on a warm spring Saturday.

We traveled to the Stimpson Nature Reserve from White Rock, BC. We had a group of 30 hikers. The trail was exceptionally well maintained and the environment was fabulous. We walked approximately 8 km. with minimal elevation gain. First group hike of the season and it was a hit. We then went to visit Whatcom Falls at Bloedel Donovan Park.

This foresty place is tucked away off of Lakeway Drive and Lake Louise Road. It is within driving distance if you live in Bellingham and you'll find that the parking lot is only full on really sunny days during the summer or weekend. The nature preserve is maintained with love and people who walk the loop and a couple trails are sincere in being outdoors and respectful. About the only sound you hear are birds, leaves dancing, squirrels and the occassional crumbs of conversations. There is the small Geneva Pond loop, the whole loop through the preserve or you can do both for about 4 miles of easy to some hills of hiking or wiking( a cross between a walk and a hike.) The benches are pleasant places to ponder at and I have never had to deal with any bikes. Dogs are not allowed, which is unfortunate, but understandable. It is quite peaceful any time of the day and any month and any season. I am thankful for such a place.

This is a well hidden gem! Hiking trails wind around the large pond and thru the forest. You can view birds, frogs, Dragonflies, turtles, and much more.

The Stimpson, long prominent in Bellingham, donated this property for a nature preserve. Its a rather wet parcel, with trails now built for a pleasant walkabout with a friend. Our local forests change rather dramatically with the seasons, growing full with low plants in the summers which then die down and open up the vistas and forest in the winter. You will want to revisit this hidden preserve again and again.

Although we had visited Bellingham and environs several times, we had never come across this gem of a park. There are two loop trails, and we walked the main one (total of about 3.3 miles). There are a few elevation changes, but nothing too strenuous; the trail is accessible to anyone who can walk for 90 minutes without an issue. Including photo stops, it took us about 90 minutes. Because of the park's location, for most of our walk we could hear nothing but the sounds of nature!

The trail goes through heavily forested land...hats not needed!

Near Bellingham, this Nature reserve is lovely. Walking, running or hiking, the enjoying the many trails any time of the year. Ponds have beavers, loons and other wild animals, even cougars sightings, but there are so many people it keeps the cougars at bay. The parking lot is small and space is limited. You can take the city bus WTA #512 Sudden Valley. It leaves the downtown station at 00:40 arriving at the reserve at 00:54 after the hour. Just make sure you remind the driver you want to get off at Stimpson Family Nature Reserve. Catch the bus at the same stop to head back into Bellingham. There are outdoor toilets at the entrance of the reserve. Best to bring water, walking sticks, flashlight as it gets dark and bug spray! Trails can be muddy, so wear good shoes. Enjoy your walk!
