The Alexander Graham Bell Museum in Baddeck was way more than I expected. It was substantial in size and told the story of his life with many pictures, artifacts, prototypes and videos. It also showed that he discovered many things besides the telephone. It is definitely worth a visit. Plan on at least an hour.

We were a small group on a bus tour and made a stop here. We had a young guide in the Museum who told us history of Alexander Bell and his wife Mabel. It was very interesting to listen to him and afterwards walk through. Also the grounds outside were lovely as well. So glad we made this stop.

My husband and I heard about the exhibit and since in the area felt it was a must see as Mr. Bell was an amazing inventor. The building is very nice and we certainly learned much about his life and accomplishments the exhibit was primarily posters of old photos and a few exhibits.

We spent about two hours in the museum, reading all about Alec and Mabel Bell and their life together. We learned so much about them both. He was like a DaVinci—always inquiring and creating. She was amazing—she was deaf from the age of 5 but learned to speak many languages. She could lip read. This museum taught us so much about their accomplishments and family life and about their special love story. Highly recommend!

Alexander Graham Bell [3 March 1847–2 August 1922] was born in Edinburg, Scotland, and died two weeks before my father’s birth. At age 23, he and his family traveled to Ontario. He converted a carriage house to his “dreaming place.” His primary interest was the human voice, inspired in party by the Six Nations Reserve, where he learned the Mohawk language and translated its unwritten vocabulary into Visible Speech symbols [phonetics].
By 1874, Bell was completing a telegraph system and worked on voice communication, largely because of his marriage to Mabel Hubbard in 1877. His wedding gift was 1,487 shares in the newly formed Bell Telephone Company. Mabel was deaf, and Bell’s inventions assisted her in “hearing” what other said. They had four children and enjoyed much time at a family compound in Baddeck, Cape Breton Island.
But Bell’s inventions far exceeded phone/telegraph communications, as demonstrated by this phenomenal historic museum. One of those inventions is the Silver Dart airplane, and far too many to mention in a brief review. This museum is a MUST SEE educational facility. Astounding!

Very well done! Educational and wonderfully laid out museum. I especially enjoyed how the personal side of the Bell family was incorporated. Going through the museum took us about 3 hours.

How much time did you spend at the museum? Did you just skim it or take it in great detail?

It will take a minimus of one hour just to skim the museum. There is so much about Alexander Graham Bell that most of the public does not know. To fully take it in you should plan on 2-3 hours minimum

Just wondering how long the tour of the museum takes...should I consider booking another attraction on the same day or is this a full day thing?

How long will the tour take? As in most things, that depends! There is a lot of information available and if your are interested in history and how it was made, reading the information and observing the exhibits. will take considerably longer than the "1 or 2 hours" provided in a previous answer. Our group of 3 spent over 3 hours there.....then again, we were interested in the accomplishments of Mr. Bell outside of, "he invented the telephone".....he we SO much more.
How ever long you visit, I hope you have a rewarding experience.
Sincerely,
Ken Schulte

This is a historic site like our national parks. It’s open every day 9am till 5 pm until October 30th. I don’t know if they have limited hours after that or if the weather dictates the hours. Our tour guide said he leaves for the winter because there is so much snow. We had a very nice visit.
I would like to know the distance from The Alexander Graham Bell Site to the Boadwater Inn & Cottages 975 Baddeck Bay, Baddeck NS

I would suggest using an online direction site (like Google Maps) so you may tailor the route to meet your interests for sight seeing and any route options. I put in your request to Google Maps and this is what is give me:
Sydney, NS, Canada
Take Charlotte St to NS-4 W
41 s (210 m)
Follow NS-125 W and Trans-Canada Hwy/NS-105 W to Margaree Rd in Baddeck. Take exit 9 from Trans-Canada Hwy/NS-105 W
53 min (77.5 km)
Turn left onto Margaree Rd
2 min (950 m)
Baddeck, NS
Hope that helps!
