The saloon is about 40 minutes outside Vegas. Make sure to have your own transport as it is not always possible to reach a ride-sharing car. The saloon is just like it is advertised..an old west-style bar/restaurant. Historical pictures and newspaper clippings of its long history....great Hollywood story, ghosts, and a nightsky show that Lou conducted that was truly "out of this world." Highly recommended. May be dull for young kids, but for them to see what the night sky looks like, is just an amazing site.

Doug was a great host at the Pioneer Saloon and made us feel very welcome. The food was okay but the history of the Pioneer Saloon was very interesting, we spent a lot of time looking at the pictures and reading the newspaper articles on the walls.
We had been looking forward to seeing the night sky from a desert location but were quite disappointed. The moon was very bright (we accept that nobody can control that!) and the lights from the saloon gave their own light pollution. We were also still close enough to Las Vegas for the lights to have an effect on the night sky. Doug and Peter from the bar did their best to find things for us to look at but we found that we can see more here at home with the naked eye than we could at Goodsprings through their telescopes. Having said that, the two telescopes they had did look very impressive.
Doug did his best to make sure that we had a good time but we must say that it was a disappointing evening with regard to the stargazing. We also thought that it was very expensive, we spent considerably less on a trip to the Grand Canyon (which was worth every penny). You should also bare in mind that “All sales are final and incur 100% cancellation penalties.” The day before our trip it rained most of the day and night, which would have meant that we would have paid over £300 to look at a wet car park.

Whilst the people at the pioneer saloon were very nice and helpful the actual star glazing element was very disappointing. Only two telescopes available to use and the lights from the saloon caused its own light pollution. Having said that did see Saturn and it’s rings and Jupiter and four of its moons.
The saloon itself is tired and run down but as the saloon wasn’t the reason for the visit didn’t impact the trip.

We took this tour because we were interested in star gazing and have been looking for somewhere to do it away from city lights. The dinner was as described -- at a counter -- and was ok but nothing special. We learned a little about the Saloon and did find time to wander around it looking at the artifacts. Then we went out to look at the stars on a very impressive state of the art telescope. The young man who showed us the stars was knowledgeable and since the saloon is far enough away from the city we had good viewing. Then we were driven back. Although the cost of the tour was too expensive for what it offered, this met our desire for seeing the stars and also allowed us not to rent a car to get there and drive in the pitch black

First the pick of the menu (only one item, the Porterhouse Steak not included) was terrific. The guide, John, was very knowledgeable and took explained all the sights in the heavens.The variety of telescope helped make the experience truly memorable.

Las Vegas is a great place to visit and not just for the gambling and shows because there is so much to see and do around the area. I discovered the Pioneer Saloon tour on-line and figured that it would be something different. It was and I say that in a positive sense. I called the tour operator, Star Journey, before I arrived in Las Vegas to confirm my tour and Jon told me he would be my tour guide and actually asked me what time I wanted to start the tour. This was new, as most tours operate on the tour company’s schedule. He explained that I was the only one on the tour, which allowed for the flexibility. He picked me up on schedule (actually he was waiting for me in his car when I got downstairs) and off we went. This flexibility also allowed us to make an unscheduled stop at the Gold Strike Hotel, one of the area’s older casinos/hotels. Jon knew the area well, was very informative, and made this tour quite interesting. The Pioneer Saloon was definitely an interesting stop. This tour is not the Grand Canyon, but is one more point of interest in the area. If you have the time, it’s worth adding it to your schedule. I hope the tour operator adds additional tours in the area.

When you walk into The Pioneer Saloon you feel like your walking into the home of a good friend who cant wait to show you around the house that they love. If you were to drive by it you might think it was just an old saloon or some type of tourist attraction. But take the time to stop in and experience some fascinating history, friendly people and maybe if your lucky a ghost or 2.
Located in Goodsprings Nevada about 30 minutes outside of Las Vegas, there are no bright flashing lights there,instead they have stars that light that up the evening sky, there are no slot machines, but there are the tables where cowboys gambled, fought and maybe lost their lives for cheating at cards in the salons early days. There may be no celebrity sightings but Carol Lombards benevolent spirit may tap you on the shoulder, and you will see the cigarette burns that Clark Gable left on the bar while he anxiously awaited news on the plane crash that killed his beloved wife in the mountain that The Pioneer is at the foot of. Ask the staff to point out the natural heart shape on the mountain that her plane crashed into.
The food is delicious, we had the trout with a yummy crust and the steak that was perfectly cooked. They have a full bar and a great selection of beers and spirits (no pun intended).
Goodsprings Nevada and the Pioneer Saloon were actually where Las Vegas got its start, a town that was once filled with miners who would flock to the Pioneer for food, drinks, a game of cards or to meet the woman of negotiable affections.
I loved the staffs genuine passion for their work, if you go for a star gazing, Johnny will make sure he answers all your questions while assisting you with the very impressive telescope collection they have on sight.
Jill loves her ghosts, and treats them as extended family to include waving at them in the cemetery as we come and go. They have haunted lock ins by appointment and have been featured on several shows.
Noel, the owner came out to talk to us during our star gazing and he also was passionate about the history of the location and the ghosts who still reside in the area, helping to give the location a unique history.
If you go to Viator you can book a tour that includes dinner, a choice of several different tours and round trip transportation to and from your Las Vegas hotel, this way you can belly up to the bar, enjoy a few beverages and still make it back to Las Vegas safely. It was well worth the price paid for the evening.
We booked the star gazing tour, and Johnny did a great job, he was so enthusiastic about showing us the beauty of the Nevada skies and even came running into the saloon to get us when Jupiter peaked the horizon allowing us a look at the beauituful planet and a glance at 4 of its moons. As Jill was driving us back to Vegas we noticed some strange lights coming from the cemetery, we pulled over and watched the light skip around the graveyard with no one in sight. I look forward to coming back next year for one of the haunted lock-ins to meet some of the spirits who entertained us in the cemetery that evening, and to enjoy more. delicious food and spend another evening with some of the friendliest people (and ghosts) in Nevada.

Had a chance to see some stars of Vegas....outer space stars that is. A very cool experience learning about the constellations and star formations. Chuck was a highly informative guide and quite frankly...knew his stuff about the stars and astronomy. A highly recommended experience and includes a meal. Shuttle bus is also available if you need one. Just call ahead to make sure it's available.

Went to Vegas to see the sights, but the real adventure was the Star Gazing Tour at the Pioneer Saloon. While in Vegas I saw several shows and attractions but nothing compared to the Star Journey. They provided us transportation to and from our hotel, a great dinner and an incredible view of the stars, Jupiter, moon, etc.
I will definitely be going back-- FABULOUS tour!

My wife and I were both raised in cities where at night you can see the stars. In Las Vegas, you don't get to see that..... but about 30 minutes outside of Las Vegas, you can take a tour at an historic location, learn about the stars you are about to look at, enjoy great food, and drink, and then spend the rest of the night gazing at the stars through many different telescopes.
