Was excited to show my children the ship they've been asking to see since they were able to speak of Thanksgiving. Although not mentioned anywhere else, a piece of paper on the ticket window stated, "closed". My best guess would be, too close in proximity to the Cole's Hill where National Day of Mourning meeting was held on Thanksgiving... We stayed in town and were determined to tour the beautifully crafted ship the next day. The schedule said 9am...the ticket booth opened a little after 9:30am...when some of the tourists were getting ready to leave. Perhaps too much turkey the day before made the staff just a little annoyed to be working on Friday, so we didn't get the same level of interaction as at the English village just the day before. I'd say, take some pictures of the shore and explore the Cole's Hill instead.

It is amazing to believe that the first pilgrims crossed the Atlantic in this tiny ship, touring the ship really brings this experience to life. The staff throughout the ship are very friendly and knowledgeable, eager to share their knowledge and history of the ship. We were glad we didn't miss this experience.

To stand on the Mayflower II and learn about the pilgrim journey finished off a superb couple of days in Plymouth MA. All the staff knew their history and to be able to experince the ship was fantastic

The people on the ship describing ship life are very good. They gave a great presentation and answered many questions. The people that sailed on a ship like that were tough. The kids were loving it.

Amazing replica. Hard to imagine what the actual conditions were like sailing across the Atlantic. It really is stepping back 400 years. Highly recommended if in the area.

Fascinating and informative time on the Mayflower II, a 1957 replica of the ship which transported the Pilgrims to Plymouth in 1620. Unhurried, excellent guides, faithful reproduction of living conditions, map room, windlass, sails, rigging, and the like. Time aboard was over an hour. First-class display boards and plenty to interest kids too. Situated at the centre of the Plymouth waterfront, this is a must-see.

We all knew that the Pilgrims arrived to our shores in 1620 on the Mayflower. Our grandsons love climbing all over this ship, The Mayflower II.

This is a great replica of the original vessel. The admission is quite expensive for adults, seniors and children. The staff provide very good explanation, information about the operation of the vessel

Can you just show up, buy a ticket and go onboard the same day or do you need an advanced reservation? Is there someone on board that gives a tour?

Yes, we did the Mayflower tour on a whim while we were waiting for our whale watch time. There were numerous historians located around the ship and on the outside of the ship to provide information and answer questions, and I must say they were very knowledgeable!
can I view the outside of the mayflower without buying a ticket?

you can see the outside of ship from the pier but in order to get closer, you need to buy a ticket which then leads you through this maze of a few pictures and some "facts' strung up on the make shift walls (think sheets hang up like an office cubicle). IMO, was NOT worth the $15 because the boat was empty, NOTHING was inside (props, sacks of food/flour/etc, furniture) and no tour guide to 'talk' about the adventure.

Sorry my reply is late, I'm seeing this question for the first time today, September 2nd. The Mayflower is docked at the State Pier at Pilgrim Memorial State Park and is a stationary exhibit. You may step aboard the ship and learn the history of the ship and see the quarters of the crew, captain and where the Pilgrims were below deck during the voyage of 1620.

No. The Mayflower is not back yet. It is now anticipated that it will return in the early Fall.

We had the Boston go cards that included the Mayflower II so I can't say how much it costs but you might want to check out the Boston go card if you want to do more than the Mayflower. I would definitely recommend the walking tour @the Jenney Museum

The Mayflower is on the State Pier, downtown on the waterfront. There is angle street parking for a good-sized truck, but not for the trailer. About a half-mile north, maybe a quarter-mile beyond the Town Pier and the rotary, there is a big parking lot that can handle tour buses (we see a lot of those).
Also on the Town Wharf behind the East Bay Grille is the public boat landing with room for cars with boat trailers. I do not know if there are rules about non-boat trailers there.
