We parked in the tiny, easy-to-miss parking lot behind the closed country store (because COVID), and spent 45 minutes following the grassy trail around the open meadow. The trail markers are little wooden icons shaped like red barns. The trail begins behind the private house located up the hill on the property. It was quite lovely on a sunny fall day but I imagine it’s brutally hot mid summer. The trail is very exposed. As advertised, it goes by a small graveyard but not many other landmarks. It was a relaxing, easy walk but not very exciting.

This place was a bit difficult to navigate. It has a small parking lot, though we were the only vehicle there. And it did have bathrooms, which were very much appreciated!
However, that was about all the signage there was.
We walked past a nice little educational garden behind the Store (the Store was closed) and then my husband spotted a piece of wood, shaped like a barn on a fence post. We decided to follow it and then my husband ended up talking to someone who lived farther up on that hill. She informed him where the trail leads (around the meadow) and so we started following those little wooden "signs". It was super hot on the path with the meadow on one side and a small woods on the left. We made it awhile but then saw a beaten down path in the woods and decided to take that. We did see one doe walking calming through the trees. And then that "path" took us to the road. Across the street then we found a river and the kids played in it for awhile as we watched fly fisherman down river a little.
It was a nice morning, but if I had to pick one park, I'd pick Swallow Falls instead of Sang Run

My wife and I attended the fall festival; it was our first visit to this nice state park. It was very close (10 minute drive) to Wisp resort and McHenry. There were lots of families with children enjoying the park and the many activity stations that they had set up for the festival. The park and buildings have interesting Civil War history; it was a stop on the Underground Railroad. The land is nicely situated near the Yough River. Staff could not have been more friendly or helpful, definitely welcoming visitors to the relatively new park.

This is a new (as of 2017) Maryland State Park consisting of about 81 acres incorporating the “Historic Friends Store”. Two adults visited this small park on a Friday in mid-July and found it interesting.

The store itself is interesting with many old items lining the shelves and we enjoyed talking with the enthusiastic Park Ranger there. Since everything was soaking wet after a heavy rain, other than looking at the two vegetable gardens, we didn’t do anything else.

The park website lists “A mile-long trail traverses the agricultural farm fields highlighting large old trees, wildflower meadows and passes by a private family cemetery. During the summer months, nature programs such as hayrides, guided bird hikes, and Dutch oven demonstrations are held. Sang Run State Park has a waterless toilet facility.” There is evidently a festival held in the fall that sounds interesting.

A little park with a lot of potential.
