The trail was easy to find but the trail is not for small kids, small dogs or anyone winy. You drive about 1.5 miles in a dirt road access. Park and walk over some mud, rocks, multiple (10) creek crossings (about knee deep water) that can be slippery, climb through downed trees and end 3 + miles later at a beautiful 200 foot tall waterfall. It took us 1:30 to hike up and 1:20 to return. Bring water and snacks. Leave early. Follow the green tags on trees to stay on the trail. These tags can be challenging to find at the first creek crossing which is about 0.5 miles from the parking area. The first creek crossing very rocky. The rest of the hike is all woods Have fun

Wow what a great hike. We hadn't gone over 4 miles and it was 5 miles round trip to the first area to go look at the falls. We aren't novice hikers but was can get in 3+ miles with elevation easy. We stopped twice for water and rest on a couple of the inclines. Orange tape and Neon Green markers are at each of the 10 creek crossings. It would be good to have a 6 foot sturdy walking stick to help with the creeks in some areas. I thought the trail was well marked and you only needed help near the crossings. You can go up the trail further than what we did. The creek view was awesome. Drive back to the trail start was long and on a gravel road so be aware. No cell service for the most part.

I was working on a bridge over the creek and for two days I did not go to the north side [ southbound side]. When I did I was surprised at this sight. During a little rain break I took a walk down to check out the creek. I am glad I found it. It was a nice diversion from work...having been on the road for two weeks.

Make sure you start on the trail and all will be well! Having heard that the Emery Creek Trail is not always well-marked and that there are several creek crossings, we made a mistake right at the beginning and headed down to the creek at the trail head, not knowing that the actual trail went off the the right. We dutifully crossed but couldn't find the trail on the other side. We worked our way up creek on the left side, climbing over boulders, pressing through thick brush, up and down the steep side of the hill, until we realized the trail was actually on the other side and doesn't cross the creek until .3 miles. We found our way back over the creek, hiked up to the trail, and then it was fine the rest of the way. The trail not hard to follow at all once you are actually on the trail! The creek crossings are all pretty well marked, and so it was easy to navigate those.
You will get wet! Normally I try will all my might to avoid stepping in water on hikes. I like to keep my feet dry! Well, this hike has at least 10 creek crossings each way and you just have to make up your mind that you are going to forge through the water. I wore my regular hiking boots and wool socks --- I was fine. The water was cool and marching through the creeks was pretty refreshing. Cotton socks would have kept my feet and socks soggy and uncomfortable the whole time. Using wool, the water would drain off eventually and, though my feet were wet, it wasn't much more than what they be with normal sweat. The creek crossings made the hike fun and helped break up the distance.
The waterfalls at the end were great.

We went to the Emery Creek trail and it did not disappoint! Definitely wear shoes with with traction that can get wet because you WILL cross the creek a minimum of 10 times. But it is totally worth it when you get to the top!! Pack snacks or a lunch to enjoy at the top. Great place to bring and eno as well. Things I would make sure you have: bug spray, water bottles and a GoPro or at least a camera. Put phones in dry bags (or ziplock) to prevent any accidents if you slip while crossing the creek. Depending on when you go you may see an occasional snake. Don’t let that stop you-as long as you don’t mess with them they don’t mess with you. Wouldn’t bring really small
children on this hike because it’s a long one with a fair amount of climbing. But 8-10 and older would be fine. Great family memories for sure!!

We loved this trail! Like the other reviews say, be prepared for a moderate intensity and to most likely get your feet wet. We crossed the river several times by managing to jump the rocks to the other side and several times by just breaking down, taking our shoes off and walking straight through the creek bed.
Also once you get to the falls, we had to do what seemed like some vertical rock climbing to get to the upper levels. It can be steep!
Ran into a few other hikers on the trail or camping up by the falls but for the most part it was a peaceful hike. Would only have been better if there were a few more trail markers! We were unsure where to cross at some points and had to double back a few times to find the right path.
We wore our FitBits and estimated that the trail was approximately 8 miles round trip. I also brought my 12 pound Long hair Chihuahua Loki because he loves to hike. He did great even with his little legs and jumping over fallen trees. He had to be carried over the streams but otherwise he wanted to lead the way! If he can do it, we all can!

Emery Creek Trail is absolutely a must do hike if you are in the area. The drive is a little long and the parking is limited but it is worth the trip. No matter how far up the trail you go plan to travel you must plan on getting wet. To get to the first of several waterfalls you will seven water crossings anywhere from mid calf to mid thigh deep and after a rain the water can be a bit swift. Although the falls are the main attraction the trail holds a ton of photo opps. Even on the drive to get to the parking lot you can stop to take a few pics of an old fire truck by the road. This is a good hike and I do highly recommend it.

Get out and into Georgia's beautiful Cohutta Mountains Wilderness area with an adventurous hike up Emery Creek Trail to the waterfalls. Truly a scenic and wild hike with 10 water crossings to challenge all levels of hikers or backpackers.
Emery Creek Trail from The Valley trailhead at Emery Creek is easily reached. From the onset of the hike traveling high over the creek you get the feeling that this will be good.

Hiked this 6mile trail with our teenagers and lab. There are about 20 creek crossings so don't count on staying dry. This a secluded trail. We didn't come across anyone except 2 campers. It absolutely beautiful. The falls themselves are gorgeous. We had lunch and rested when we got there. You could swim there if you wanted but we didnt.
