Unfortunately, it was not a nice experience. We only had two pleasant experiences: there was cold drinking water at the entrance and we saw a turtle.
The ruins are interesting, but the heat makes it difficult to enjoy the walk.
The guard on the mountaintop is not nice at all. We were the only ones visitors in that moment. My friend is 55 years old. She came with us with her three children. He climbed to the top of the mountain and was not well because it was 38 degrees. He took off his shirt and sat down in the shade to feel better.
We were the only ones there, no one else. The guard came and told him to take the shirt back immediately.
We didn't bother anyone because we were the only ones there. I don't understand why was this necessary.
Admission is free for under 25s and 4 euros for adults.

As advertised, longish walk up a hill to see the outlines of ancient buildings. Only 4 euros so good value. Nice clean toilet block and water fountain. Loads of parking (end of season!)

Interesting historical landmark. Highly recommended to go if you are on holiday in Halkidiki, for example. It is a bit of a walk from the parking lot. You have to take that into account. The information boards at the ruins themselves are illegible and need to be replaced.

An important archaeological site in Halkidiki, Greece. Olynthos was designed in the 5th century BC, by the architect Hippodamos of Miletos. The “Hippodamian Plan” was used for the architectural design of the ancient Piraeus port and Alexandria city as well as Washington D.C.! It is the first bioclimatic city in the world. Not to be missed!

Lovely surroundings, good information available on the boards around the site and at the additional exhibition near to the entrance. €4 per adult which is very reasonable. Look out for wild tortoises. Only downside is a lot of it has been rebuilt with the old stone, as opposed to it being the absolute original.

There are not many ancient sites to visit in this part of Greece and it is definitely worth spending a few hours away from the beaches to visit Ancient Olynthos. It is well signposted and there is a car park. Entrance costs 4 euros (well worth it). The leaflet you get on entering gives a lot of information, as does the exhibition on the way to the actual site. Both are in Greek and English. Reading them means that the site makes more sense. Although none of the artefacts that were found here can be seen on site (they are in museums elsewhere) the reconstruction of remains of the walls of buildings is very atmospheric. Thre are a couple of mosaics to see, though. You get a sense of how well planned and organised this town was in the 5th century BC. and you really get a feel for how the buildings were used. Only a fraction of the city has been excavated but even so it is much bigger than I was anticipating. Am amazing piece of history - an in a stunning location.

If you are a history buff this place is worth it in more ways than one.
It’s quite a walk from where you park the car.
And it can be really hot. But in September with the wind in t was doable.
Amazing views on top. But what’s so wondrous is the feel of history and seeing the ruins of the place. You get a feeling and views of f how it was centuries ago.
Later in de n I visited the Thessaloniki museum and than it mentions the history of the place and why Olynthos was finally destroyed. And than you realized you were actually able to walk there yourself. Amazing.
Highly recommended if you are a history buff and love to take pictures
