We had the great privilege to attend an educational cat tour and this has become a memory we will cherish forever! The experienced guide answered all our questions with enthusiasm and knowledge. We will recommend this educational cat tour to every family who adores wildlife and the preservation thereof.
We hope to see the friendly staff and magnificent wildcats again soon!

Unbelievable experience and one I will never forget! The interactions with the cats were extraordinary! The guides were so informative and engaging! We learnt so much and walked away from the experience with a wealth of knowledge.

We felt that this was a tourist attraction, not helped by the guide calling it a show. We came away with more questions than answers. They have only released five cheetahs in nearly 20 years (to parks) and have not done any cheetah breeding. It was of course nice to pet the two tame cheetahs but they are very old (15) and one is sick. We were not sure what the education part was, because everyone just wanted a photo with a cheetah.
The African wild cat had exactly the same markings as domesticated cats we have seen in South Africa.
We came away unclear as to how this project was helping the cheetah population, so we were pleased to see a cheetah mothers and three cubs in HI national park a few days later.

Thank you for your review. As the owners of this project we take all feedback seriously, including negative reviews. It is also our duty to address your concerns, on this platform, to provide some clarity on the situation to our future guests.
It is very sad to read that you have left with more questions than answers. A pity that you did not reach out to us on the email you made the reservation on, as we are always available to address any other questions our visitors might have. An informed guests are always a happy guests.
The main emphasis of the cat project is to release the progeny of animals back into the wild which we succesfully did. We only keep our breeding pairs (ambassador animals) and those animals that cannot be released due to many reasons, at the project and for educational purposes. All offspring, where possible, will be released into the wild, back where they belong. Our releasing numbers up to date, a true statement of what this very small project is all about. Cheetah – 5 Serval – 25 Caracal – 15 African Wildcats – 9 : All these releases were conducted in conjunction with our local authorities and recorded as per our SOP’s and Protocols. Our conservation efforts to rewild and release any animal does not come cheap or with no effort. 2 years to prepare an animal (rewilding) and 3-6 months in a boma before release and monitoring the animal after release.
As you will read up that it is extremely difficult to breed with cheetah, in the wild and even more in captivity. But we tried and succeeded. To set the record straight as we suspect you might have interpretted the info incorrectly. Our captive cheetah have bred succesfully and 5 offspring were succesfully release into small private reserves. You are indeed correct, African wildcats do have the same marking as housecats. They arose from the African wildcat which are genetically threatened due to interbreeding with domestic and feral cats.
As always, guests visiting the project love to take photos of the cats, with or without them in the background. Each to their own. Our guests do appreciate the work we do in the 30 years having this project, unfortunately we cannot please everyone but we will still want to try!

Even though we arrived more than an hour early were staff super and helpfull to allow us in. Great service by the professional staff. They made us feel at home. The premises are beautifully kept and one feels to just stay there forever.
The cats were also in a very good condition and the staff most knowledgeable on the species. They looked after as and ensure that were safe. Will definately go back again

We went to this project as cheetahs are our daughters favourite animal. We were extremely glad to have the opportunity to see these gorgeous cats up close. We hadn’t understood when we booked that under 16s aren’t allowed in with the cheetahs which was a shame. We did an hour long private tour and saw the four types of cat.

We always expect guests to make contact with us prior your visit. We will always try and accommodate you. It is not the age that is the issue but rather the size. Please remember that these animals are still wild animals. Our guest safety always come first.

Our family of six including four adults and two children visited the Cat Reserve on 10th July 2023 for the morning 1030 tour.
The guide who showed us around was knowledgeable, friendly and informative. He explained how they care for the injured or orphaned cat species and measures taken to rehabilitate them at the centre. He took us along to show us the Caracal, African Wild Cat, Cheetah and the Serval. We were taken into some enclosures for closer observation. Our child of 11 years was not permitted to enter the Cheetah enclosure. We learnt a lot of interesting facts about these cats during the tour.
The guide explained that the animals after a period of rehabilitation are released back to the wild. Those that remain had been injured in the wild and would not probably have lived otherwise.
It was indeed a most informative visit thoroughly enjoyed by all and an opportunity to see these elusive cats!

Est ce que les enfants ( 9 et 11 ans) peuvent caresser un guépard et prendre des photos sachant que je viens de lire que les enfants de moins de 16 ans ne pouvaient pas entrer dans le parc des léopards?

Hi there. The information is on the web site for Emdoneni Lodge and look under the Cat Project area. It was R220.0 per person and we just arrived at the lodge and purchased tickets on the day. It can get busy in high season and they limit the number of visitors per session.
