Very well done museum and archeological site. Self tour easy to follow, and gives a great insight to Phoenix's past.
Glad we took the time to stop in, and highly recommend it, especially for visitors to the area.

The museum was well staffed, and staff was friendly. The person at the desk showed us original photos from the discovery of the site, about 60 years ago. We were excited to see the real thing once we were done with inside artifacts. Very disappointed to see very little remains of the site, it was very hard to discern what it had been even with seeing the photos. The outside structure was disintegrating and when asked, staff said they only had volunteers about once a month to help shore up the crumbling structure. We were very disappointed in seeing what had become of this amazing discovery.

We really enjoyed seeing the archeological digs and the petroglyphs. How interesting. And well described, well thought out and the archeologist , Michael, was great. He answered a lot of questions

The archaeological site itself isn't too impressive until you learn about it, and then it's pretty cool. The museum is very well done with lots of interesting information, and if you go when there's a volunteer demonstrating things, it's even better. Don't go in summer unless you're a true desert rat, and don't expect quiet or isolation (it's a stone's throw from the airport)

This is very small but well worth the visit. Kids loved it and learned a lot. Both 9 year and 14 year were quite facinated and they took lots of pictures and enjoyed the small hike.

Located near Sky Harbor airport in Phoenix ,Arizona, is a small but interesting museum about the Hohokam culture which has an archeological site .It has in outdoor part with the archeologic excavations and recreations of different kind of native- American dwellings , and the indoor part with a theater showing a short movie about the site, then three rooms with exhibits of native American culture .The staff and volunteers were very helpful and welcoming during our visit.

We went here for the Indian Market, which was really nice. There was a wonderful variety of art, both by adults and children. We really enjoyed our visit.

Just returned from the annual Pueblo Grande Indian Market which is held each December at the museum. Walking through the grounds you can see how advanced ancient Native cultures were. Excavations include oven/cooking areas, irrigation systems, sleeping areas, even sporting "courts". Doesn't take long to get through, but provides a new perspective on tribal sophistication.in the past.

Do they have good levels of engagement fo all ages and abilities /mobility?? Kids 3, 5, 6/7, 9?? And Seniors with limited mobility?
Hello MCJ79,
Thank you for asking about Pueblo Grande Museum's youth engagement and mobility offerings.
As some of the answers have already mentioned, we do have a small indoor hands-on children's gallery that explores the science of archaeology. We also have Discovery Guide worksheets for grades K-2 and 3-6 which can be printed from the Education Resources page on our website or picked up at the front desk in the Museum lobby. And children can return these completed sheets to the front desk for a prize too.
During the summer, the Museum offers storytelling and craft programs with local authors, as well as more in depth camp programs combining art, history, science, and archaeology for children ages 6 to 12. More information on these programs can be found on the Events & Programs page on the Museum website.
The Museum and outdoor interpretive trail are all ADA accessible. There are also push wheelchairs available for use to the public in the front lobby at no additional charge.
If you have any further questions about Pueblo Grande Museum, our programs, or exhibits, please feel free to contact the Museum directly at (602) 495-0901.
Sincerely,
Renee A.
