In a guide book I read before our trip to the Grand Canyon, Cameron Trading Post was list as a "must see" if you head towards the east end of the canyon. We did the circle of south, then east, then north rims, so it was on our list. Wasn't as impressive as the book had led me to believe, but to be fair we had seen a lot of souvenir shops by this time (Williams had the coolest). It really is a large place, essentially in the middle of a desert. And they have it all. Groceries, souvenirs, Indian crafts....lots of Indian crafts, and a restaurant. One thing we realized during our 9 day trip, was that everything in Nevada and Arizona is ridiculously expensive. But I will say that their Indian crafts seemed a little more reasonably priced, as compared to the gift shops on the south rim, or those in Williams. Ultimately, if you're going to go to the east end of the canyon, or drive that way on your way to the north rim, it's definitely worth a stop. Especially since you not going to see much in any other direction for miles.

Simply amazing experience!Very reasonably priced for what we got, a clean modern room over looking the little Colorado river. The stone garden area is very impressive, the stone work was amazing, not sure who designed this place but they spared no expense..The food in the restaurant was very good, and what a view! I could go on, but you get the drift. We love to hike, but this is all res land so we stayed close.

We stopped here for lunch on the way from the South Rim to the North Rim on Route 89. It was a pleasant surprise and a much larger area then we thought it would be. They have a large historic dining room as well as a gift shop and hotel.
We had the Navajo Taco for lunch it was a very large portion. The big difference is that it is served on Navajo "fry bread". The price was reasonable.
We also did some souvenir shopping.
The restaurant was beautiful and large. It had a beautiful fireplace and large windows.

If you are visiting the Grand Canyon and would like a nice place to stay I would suggest the Cameron Trading Post in Cameron by the east entrance.
It has a fuel Station, Restaurant, shop and even a small museum.
It was one of the best motels I stayed in.
The room I had over looked a nice canyon & old disused steel bridge.
They have lovely secluded garden with lighting and a BBQ.
it about 30min drive to the Grand Canyon East entrance & about 1.30-2h to Page/Antelope Canyon.

We stopped at the Cameron Trading Post for lunch and to look for some specific native jewellery- small earrings for a granddaughter and a pendant for me, which were bought. They have a large inventory of native things, most reasonablely priced. The restaurant was good.

Excellent experience on ALL fronts! Hotel registration was pleasant and accommodating (requested first floor), Food in the dinning room was delicious…BUT they should have warned us that 2 seniors should have SHARED the Indian Taco!! It was WONDERFUL and filling!! The stew was flavorful and veggy’s creamy! The wait staff (Marcia) though pleasant wasn’t all that friendly but then, it could just have been a l-o-n-g day with difficult customers (haven’t we all had “THOSE” days???)

This is a large store with a variety of unique products. There were many items to choose from in addition to your normal souvenir type items. I purchased an Alabaster bear made by a member of the Navajo tribe. There is also some food to purchase and clean restrooms.

The biggest surprise was the fabulous restaurant behind the trading post store. Terrific food, great coffee, outstanding, friendly service. I wouldn’t go through this area without stopping here to eat.

The hotel room was fantastic. It was a very comfortable stay. The view from the balcony was beautiful. The restaurant was ok, expensive. This is a touristy place, but the room was great.

are there adequate R.V sites available & do we need reservations - price per nite??
Skrevet d. 28. juni 2018
Might be late with the answer but I do not believe you need a reservation and parking lot is huge definitely RV friendly. We visited over Spring break with no problems.

Hello!
I realise this is a 'how long is a piece of string' question BUT, please could you tell me about the pricing of your rugs? I am coming to Arizona for the first time and would love to budget for a hand woven piece but I have absolutely NO idea of the price range to expect....
Many thanks!

Navajo rugs, the good ones, are not inexpensive. As others here have noted smaller good quality rugs can easily be priced at $5,000. Another factor in price is popularity of the rug style. High thread count, well woven Two Grey Hills, Storm Patterns or Ganado Red style rugs come to mind. I have stopped at Cameron Trading Post many times and always eye their inventory in the rug sales area. They do have some good quality weavings, but also some fairly mid grade weavings. There is usually a weaving in progress on the loom where if you're lucky you might catch the weaver at work. The rugs I have seen on the loom have been of high quality and I believe they have sold for above $25,000. A good quality, larger size rug can easily take a year to complete and I think that clearly speaks to the cost factor.
There is much to consider when talking about Navajo weavings (rugs) and not nearly enough space here to address things properly. My suggestion is to get yourself a copy of the following two books and read them over before you get to Cameron.
Rugs and Posts by H.L. James. Shiffer Publishing
Navajo Rugs by Don Dedera. Northland Publishing, Flagstaff, Arizona
Should you have time to delve into things a bit deeper I would suggest the book: Navajo Weaving Three Centuries of Change by Kate Peck Kent. Published by the School of American Research Press, Santa Fe, New Mexico
Good luck and happy hunting.

Hello,
We do have the Cactus Jack milkshake which is on the menu. It's a milkshake made with prickly pear cactus fruit. Delicious!
