Déception ! Plus de lac depuis 2013,alors que toutes les pubs montrent le cratere avec son lac bleu ou vert.

Auf der Durchreise haben wir da angehalten. Ansonsten muss man nicht extra da hin fahren. Kostenpunkt 15$ p.P Eintritt was zu viel ist. Wir waren keine 30min da oben und haben es gesehen.

Whilst this review isn’t for the volcano itself, I’m not saying a volcano is ‘poor’, as it’s obviously a natural formation, however, the experience and visit as a whole was poor. We drove all the way from Uvita to visit Irazu as we were under the impression that it was something that we shouldn’t miss. However, when we arrived, we were told we needed to make an online reservation. This wasn’t clear on their website, nor was it clear anywhere else. We were expecting to just turn up, hand them $15pp and drive off to the car park to see the volcano. But this wasn’t the case. We had to join a side queue full of people logging into their wifi to make a SINAC reservation. Once we made it, we paid the parking fee too and drove on to the car park. There were 2 craters that we could see at the time, one of which was the primary crater which is meant to have turquoise water in from the minerals, there wasn’t (which was fine as this is natural and can’t be expected), but from a viewpoint perspective, you couldn’t really see anything. The clouds coming in was the best part. The cafe and shop was extortionately expensive…all in all, certainly wouldn’t recommend this when there are plenty better NPs to visit.

Espectacular vista del volcán y sus alrededores desde donde se aprecian a los lejso bellísimas semblanzas de pueblitos de la zona....ahh y el camino hacia el volcan es paradisiaco

It is my second time visiting the Irasu Volcano.
I had visit 40 years ago. This time it was much better I was able to feel an emotional sensation of power. The clouds passing by you, spectacular. Amazing experience!!!!

We came to CR all the way from Lima, Peru, planning to visit volcanos and Caribbean beaches.
We visit this country once a year.
Our son is Costa Rican.
But during ghis trip we had a few sort-of-umpleasant surprises as soon as we got to San José:
1. There are traffic jams coming in to the city from all directions.
2. CR has already become very expensive.
3. We could not get in to see the Irazu volcano, after driving during 90 min., because now tourists need to make online reservations to get in.
The guards at the entrance were very rude, which is an atypical behavior in Costarricans.
4. The country is becoming unsafe: the Caribbean coast is plagued by petty thieves.
Other parts of the country too.
The number of other crimes is raising also.
5. Roads around Puerto Limon are dangerous: the goverrnment is repairing or expanding them in a very haphazard way.
Conclusion: Costa Rica is losing its competitiveness in ecotourism, its charm as a "pura vida" country, and its perception as a safe destination very fast.

ATTENTION : PLUS DE LAC D’ACIDE, depuis au moins 1 an au vu d’un commentaire.
Renseignez vous pour vous éviter une grosse déception. En effet, le reste du parc a vraiment peu d’intérêt, en 45minutes c’est plié, 20 si on compte pas l’aller-retour jusqu’au cratère à sec
Petit point de vu sympa mais ça vaut pas le trajet et sûrement pas l’entrée du parc !

Sugiro perguntar antes de ir pois eu fui e achei uma decepção pois tinha muitas nuvens e a visibilidade estava péssima, dependendo da época tem de ir muito cedo para enxergar algo. Por exemplo agora em abril me informaram que só tem visibilidade cedo até 9:00h am.

There is parking lot from where you can make short walks to the crater. If you put your luggage out of sight I guess it is completely safe.

En la review de Milagros ella habla de un autobus, el #307 que sale del Hotel Costa rica a las 5 de la mannana para el volcan. En todas las demas comentarios que he leido dicen
que el autobus sale a las 8am del lado del Teatro Nacional. Nosotros planemos ir alrededor del dia 18 o 19 de diciembre. Alguien puede sugerir la mejor y mas rapida manera de llegar desde San Jose y luego, al regresar, parar en Cartago, por transporte publico todo. Gracias

We are traveling in April and our flight comes in at 10:30am. We are renting a car from Solid and are staying at Dantica Cloud Forest lodge our first two nights. I was considering heading straight to Irazu immediately after getting our car, I want to arrive at Dantica by 5:00pm! I do not want to be driving in the dark!! Hoping someone can give me some advice on whether or not that plan is realistic? is it worth the 2+ hours of extra driving? How long does it take to tour? Is it likely we'll run into traffic? Thank you for any advice!!

Irazú Volcano is located in a National Park, usually National Parks open at 8 or 9 am and close at 4 pm. You can go in a day by a tour or by yourself, if you go by yourself you can be there as long as you want until 4 pm, but traffic in Costa Rica after this hour ir complicated in the main cities.

Hi! Would anyone know when the best time is to visit this volcano, so as to avoid clouds and ash from the Turrialba volcano? Also, would an active 75-year old woman be able to hike up to the crater? My grandma will be joining me on this visit. I'd appreciate any help.

Hi! The National Park has physical access until volcano to everybody, so there's no problem with your grandma. The clouds and ash can be present at any hour and any day of the year, actually this both situations are ramdomized, like all others conditions in Costa Rica (we have a crazy tropical weather were you have to carry every day a sun protection and an umbrella because you don't know what is gonna happen), but the most possibility to avoid them is at morning.
