Close to the Angkor Thom South Gate the temple has the tiered architecture similar to Pre Rup. It was the first temple mountain built in Angkor.
There aren't any significant carvings and if you are short of time, this can be skipped.

After visiting Angkor main temple for few hours which almost took more than 2 to 3 km distance walk which no one can avoid (because of the far away parking area due to the canal front of the Angkor wat temple), next started to visit Bayon temple in Angkor thom area.

The entry point to Angkor thom area is the Angkor south gate and the surrounding canal. Just before and very close to it is the Baksei Chamkrong temple. Most probably every tourist will stop in this area. However, this area was reached in just 5-7 minutes ride from Angkor wat. So can have quick look/visit at the temple without entering inside to save time, as the next big attraction Bayon temple needed a lot of walk again. Decide spending time at Baksei Chamkrong temple in case if the trip is for one day only. If the Angkor trip is for more than one day, then can spend some time at Baksei Chamkrong temple.

I would skip it and save my energy for the next Temples

This Temple is located on your way from Angkor Wat to Bayon Temple (the one with the hidden faces in the walls).
It is just on your left before crossing the Victory gate (also know as Angkor Thom South Gate) and its bridge.

The 1st day (and often only day) visiting the Temples is a long one, a tiring one, even an exhausting one for some, especially wen you are struggling with the weather (scalding hot or pouring showers) and most of all with the endless buses and crowds of tourists pushing you for their photos (did i mention from which country? but you have probably guessed).

Your first day includes Angkor Wat, Bayon Temple, Baphuon, The Elephants path, Ta Peo and of course Ta Prohm and last Bantay Kdei Wat.
And that is not all of them because on your way there are many more like this one Baksei Chamkrong.

And since it is just after Ankgor and since you still have all your strength and energy you will stop.

Don't do that.

As I have written there are many more and you also may risk to be simply, not only exhausted physically...but mentally, yes ...fed up exactly as we were with the last one Bantay Kdei Wat, which is ten times more beautiful and interesting than this one.

So plan your day, measure your efforts, choose what must be seen, and leave aside some others, just like this one.
It is indeed beautiful, especially when it is your 2nd one, but much more and better is on its way to you.

Baksei chamkrong is a cool pyramid temple in between bakheng temple and the south entrance of angkor Thom. It is worth a quick visit and a steep climb.

"Mountain temple "
mar. 2019 • Par
This is referred to as a mountain temple as per Cambodian heritage - and really it's a mountainous climb to reach the top.
The perilous steep stairs have no railing. I was scared to climb up. My guide offered to hold my hand and help me climb. I did that and reached the top. It was a good view from the top.
This Hindu temple is dedicated to lord Shiva .It is made of laterite, brick and sand stone. The main tower is made of brick.

Pequeña pausa entre Angkor Wat y Angkor Thom
jan. 2019 • Alene

Steep Hindu Temple
okt. 2018 • Par
Our guide took us here after visiting Angkor Wat. I had never heard about it but when we arrived it was empty. Not another person was there and it was refreshing after just visiting the jam packed Angkor Wat. The temple is dedicated to lord Shiva. The guide told us that the king tried to flee Angkor and a bird had protected them. There is not much to the Temple but be careful if you try to climb it because the steps leading to the top are quite steep. Our guide took a time lapsed video of us climbing it and it is rather funny. You will enjoy this place for sure.
