We happened into this night club on our second trip to Cusco. It was a Tuesday night after 12am and the streets were quiet. Most locations were either closed or deserted. When passing Mimika we could hear the music from the sidewalk and decided to head in. I make no promises about the decor, however the Salsa playing gave us the desire to continue to the bar. Because it was a Tuesday the place was pretty much empty. A bar staff of two and a few locals seated at the bar. The bar tender and club manager took turns fixing our drinks, paying such attention to detail that they even asked us how many ice cubs we would like. When asking questions about different local pisco's and and anise, we were treated to free samples of the varieties they had to offer. The bar manager even recommended a pisco we should buy and where we could find it when back in Lima. We spent the night drinking and dancing to basicly whatever music we wanted to hear (yes they asked us what we would like to listen to and then changed the music to suit). After about an hour some other patrons wandered in and took part in the drinking and dancing. The night was a pleasant surprise after setting out with low expectations.
The next day we visited a hair salon in the area. The employees of the salon actually invited us to a party they were throwing for the salon owner's birthday. Lo and behold where do you think the party was being hosted? We had plans to visit other more popular night clubs in the area that night so we said thank you for the invite but continued with our plans. Later that evening we visited the other locations (Fallen Angel, Mama Africa). They were nice locations in their own right, each offering a different feel and attractiveness. But for some reason we just weren't enjoying ourselves the way we did the evening before, even with both locations having a packed house! So where do you think we ended our night? We returned to Mimika to find the salon staff partying the night away. Being that it was a Wednesday (busy night?) the place was full. However we still received the same great attentiveness from the staff, making us feel like we were local patrons for years. We purchased a bottle of Havana Club 7 year (from Cuba) at the bar and had cuba libres all night. Never once did we feel out of place or unsafe, despite this being a locals type of night club rather then a tourist spot like the other two locations we visited earlier.
Needless to say if and when we find ourselves in Cusco again we will be back at Mimika dancing the night away!
