This was my husband’s dream to see the pyramids of Giza and visit Petra. When we started doing our research, there was so much we wanted to see that our trip ended up taking us from Lower Egypt to Upper Egypt, to the Sinai Peninsula in 17 days and finally to Jordan, visiting Petra and Amman in 5 days. Royal Egypt Tours took care of us for the entire vacation. Our Tour Company owner, Mr. Wahid Bassily and his assistant Naglaa ensured our tour was well planned, taking care of all transportation, hotels and sightseeing tours. Our Guide, Mr. Mohamed Zakaria (Zak) spent the first 15 days with us, guiding us with his expert knowledge of everything Egyptian. Zak was an Archaeologist with a Masters in Tourism. Our journey started in Cairo, our home base for the next 5 days. We got right to it that first day, visiting the Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, the ‘everyone must do it’ camel ride, experienced a hot grilled lunch in a lovely restaurant overlooking the Pyramids and finally a trip to the Papyrus Factory. It was a very hot day, about 34 Celsius, but surprisingly didn’t feel that hot with the lower humidity. Comfortable shoes (I wore running shoes most of the vacation) are a must, and I typically wore long pants and t-shirts mostly for comfort, but I saw many tourists with shorts, tank tops and sandals on that first day. I kept a scarf in my knapsack for the entire 22 days, but the only time I used it was to cover myself up when the air conditioning was too cool.
During our stay in Cairo, we took a day trip to Memphis, Saqqara and Dahshur. Transportation was always in an air-conditioned minivan with our driver and Zak. They would often stop and purchase some local treat in some of the small towns. We had the best falafels on egyptian pita bread I have ever tasted and fresh dates that were delicious.
We separated our day trips with local visits to the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, spending a good portion of the day at the museum. We spent the extra admission fee to view the mummies, which we felt was worth it. We also spent most of a day visiting old Cairo and the Citadel. Again, all transportation was in an air conditioned minivan. Traffic is crazy in Cairo, so it was nice to sit back and let our expert driver (Mr. Sahid) get us safely to and from our destinations. Zak would always suggest a couple of options for lunch, describing the types of food at each restaurant. We were never disappointed with the food. Our only complaint was there was way too much food! Our main drink was bottled water, both at meals and constantly during the day. Our driver and Zak would stop a couple of times during the day to purchase bottled water.
Our day trip to Alexandria was a long drive, but an interesting visit to the Citadel and Library with lunch overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
I think my favorite visit was to the Bahariya Oasis. It took us quite a long time to drive there (3 ½ hours) but it was well worth the visit. The Sand Rose Bahariya was our meeting place, where we were welcomed with tea and cookies. From here we took a 4x4 into the desert where we ventured on an overnight camping trip with Zak and a local driver. We toured the Black Desert, Crystal Mountain and White Desert. We had a lovely hot lunch, supper and light breakfast in the desert, and camped in the open air, gazing up at the stars, until the full moon lit up the desert. It was an incredible experience. Coming back to the Sand Rose Bahariya the next afternoon, we were again greeted with tea and cookies and welcomed to take a shower to freshen up. We then toured the area visiting the sites in the Oasis, finally travelling back to Cairo to board the overnight train to Aswan.
The overnight train took much longer than expected, taking approximately 16 hrs to get to Aswan. We were so fortunate to have Zak with us as he was able to communicate with the driver meeting us in Aswan and keeping him informed of our estimated arrival time. We really enjoyed Aswan. We stayed at “The Helnan”, a beautiful 5 star hotel. Our day trip to Abu Simbel where we visited the great temple of RamsesII and the temple of Nefertari were spectacular and all the more fascinating to understand how they had been moved from the bank of the Nile to preserve these great temples.
Aswan was a beautiful city with so much to see that I would highly recommend including this in your Egyptian tour.
Our cruise on the Nile from Aswan to Luxor on the Sonesta Star Goddess was beautiful. We were 2 of 9 passengers on a cruise ship that had more than 60 suites. We were surprised it was able to sail with so few passengers. The food and entertainment on the ship was exceptional and our suite was the largest I have ever experienced on a cruise ship.
Our stay in Luxor at the Sonesta St George, another 5 star hotel, was a very busy time, with visits to both the East and West Banks and a visit to Banana Island for our last supper before flying to Sharm El Sheikh via Cairo the next morning. We said a sad goodbye to Zak, who even accompanied us right to the airport at 5 am in the morning.
In Sharm we stayed at a lovely resort on the Red Sea, the Radisson Blue. We planned on relaxing, after our climb up to Mount Sinai. It was another experience I would not have wanted to miss. Our guide up the mountain was a young Bedouin, Ahmed. He was an expert photographer, taking over 400 pictures for us with our camera of the starry night sky and the sun rise. Be sure and have a hot chocolate or tea just before you climb the final 750 steps to the top. It not only warmed me up after our approximately 2 hour climb from 1 am to about 3 am, but gave me some energy for the final climb.
We left Egypt after 17 days of fairly intense touring, but the couple of days on the beaches of the Red Sea and in the pools of the Radisson Blue, rejuvenated us for our ferry ride across the Gulf of Aqaba into Jordan. The ferry ride was quite an experience. We were never really sure of the time schedule, waiting 2 hrs before boarding and then another 2 hours before sailing and taking 2 hours to cross the Gulf, it was a long day. However, Royal Egypt Tours had a Tour Manager at the port to meet us in Jordan, helping us through Customs and introducing us to our driver for our stay in Jordan.
Our Itinerary for Jordan included a trip to the Wadi Rum Desert, a day in Petra and a drive to Amman, stopping along the way to visit the Dead Sea.
We had a 2 hour 4x4 tour of the Wadi Rum Desert, watching the sun set and enjoying a Bedouin dinner back at their camp after our tour. I call it a camp, but it was extremely comfortable with lots of tables and seating covered in their traditional blankets and cushions. The washrooms had flush toilets and granite flooring. The dinner consisted of chicken, rice, potatoes, carrots all cooked in the ground over hot coals, in metal drums and covered in sand. It’s quite a ritual when the food is uncovered and lifted out of the ground.
Petra was definitely the highlight of Jordan. Walking along the Siq to the Treasury are the two main attractions, but we walked beyond them, hiking up to the Monastery. We splurged on a fruity pomegranate orange juice drink; a welcome change from water. We spent an entire day there, from 7 am to 4 pm.
Our drive to Amman included a stop at the Dead Sea. Our driver took us to a ‘day beach’ where we had access to change rooms, two fresh water pools, a buffet restaurant and of course the Dead Sea. We spent a few hours there, first floating in the sea and then showering off to take a dip in the fresh water pools. It was a very relaxing experience. We also took advantage of the buffet lunch as it was about 4pm and we hadn’t eaten since our very early breakfast.
Leaving the Dead Sea, we continued our drive to Amman, where we were taken to our hotel. We were only spending one night in Amman as we had a flight booked for Cairo the next evening to catch our connecting flight back to Toronto. Our plan was to tour Amman and surrounding areas for the day and then head off to the airport. The ruins of Jerash were a highlight with the help of one of the guides at the gate. We also visited Ajloun Castle, which was very impressive, as was the drive to reach the castle. My husband experienced some motion sickness from the drive, likely because he wasn’t driving. Jordan is really a very beautiful country with some spectacular scenery. To finish the day, our driver gave us a short city tour ending with a late lunch at a beautiful outdoor restaurant.
It was finally time to fly home after 22 days of visiting countries I never thought I’d ever get the chance to see. I really believe we could not have accomplished this trip without the help of Royal Egypt Tours. All of our transportation, hotels, ticket purchases for sightseeing, guides and drivers were organized. We never had to worry about the language barrier as all of our guides and drives spoke very good English. We always felt safe. If you’re thinking about a trip to Egypt, we would highly recommend Royal Egypt Tours.

During the planning stages of our 22 day trip to Egypt and Jordan, we researched many tour companies but were unable to find an itinerary that matched our requirements. Our tour was to include Cairo & Giza, Alexandria, Black & White Deserts, Aswan & Abu Simbel, Nile Cruise, Luxor, and Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt and Petra and Amman in Jordan. In addition to accommodating our requests, Royal Egypt Tours made suggestions for potential start dates for our vacation to coincide with cruise ship departures from Aswan. They were very patient with our numerous emails and answered our questions promptly. (Many thanks to Naglaa). Once we settled on the program, we were provided with a very detailed itinerary identifying our hotels, meals included, transportation, etc., as well as optional excursions. Royal Egypt Tours also stressed that the program was flexible and could be modified, even after we arrived.
When we landed in Cairo we were met by the owner, Mr. Wahid Bassily and our guide Mohamed Zakaria (Zak). During our ride to the hotel, we were surprised to discover that Zak would be our guide for the majority of our time in Egypt, even accompanying us on the overnight sleeper to Aswan and the cruise to Luxor. Since Zak has a degree in archaeology, his knowledge of Egyptian history enhanced our experience greatly as we visited the various pyramids, tombs and temples. This was even more impressive as we went to some sites not visited by many tourists. Since this was a private tour, we could spend as much time as we felt necessary at each attraction and not have to worry about staying on the designed schedule as larger groups would. While on the cruise ship from Aswan to Luxor, I decided to take a hot air balloon ride over the West bank at dawn. Zak was able to arrange that with less than a day’s notice.
Visiting Egypt is also about experiencing their culture and food. Each day Zak would ask us where we’d like to eat. Our typical response was, “pick something local” or “you decide”. He never disappointed and we had many interesting discussions at supper learning about each other’s country. One of our favourite experience was having supper in the White desert cooked by our Bedouin driver, then sleeping under the stars where the night sky was spectacular. Visiting a country where the customs and culture is much different can be challenging. Having someone with us to organize the daily details of our trip was absolutely invaluable. At night we often walked independently in the areas around our hotels with no issues.
Mr. Wahid would check in with us by phone on a daily basis, even when we were in Jordan, to ensure all our needs were being met. He came to the train station in Cairo to review the details for the balance of our trip and to inform us he had arranged upgrades to the hotel rooms in Aswan and Luxor (Nile views), as well as upgrading our cruise ship to the Sonesta Star Goddess.
During the Egyptian portion of our trip, we saw very few tourists from North America and that’s unfortunate as the typical tourist areas of Egypt are very safe. If Egypt is on your “bucket list”, this is a great opportunity to visit before Egypt is rediscovered. Although I would class ourselves as independent travellers, typically booking only the minimal in advance, this is not a strategy I would advocate for Egypt. I would highly recommend using Royal Egypt Tours to take care of your trip planning and allow you to fully enjoy the experience without having to worry about the small details. At the end of each email, they would close with “just express your wishes and consider it done”.

We have been recommended by our friends that this an awesome company if ever we plan to visit Egypt. In fact, they are outstandingly awesome. They had planned a perfect itinerary for us.Upon arrival In Cairo, our guide was there waiting for us in the immigration lounge and completed the process for us.Our tour guide Mohammed and our driver were excellent. The tour operator Wahab was in constant communication with our guide to make sure that everything done to our satisfaction. The light and sound at the pyramids was awesome. They were punctual and if we needed more time to spend at an attraction, they were very accommodating. Our trip to Alexandria and the walk around the citadel was amazing. When we departed to US, they cam to the airport and saw us off at the departure lounge. I would recommend this tour company to anyone who plans to visit Egypt.

This was our first trip to Egypt. I have travelled worldwide and seen many beautiful places but seeing EGYPT was always on top of my list and worth every penny spent to do so…

I did a lot of research prior to the trip and circled on to Royal Egypt Tours to assist me with the land arrangements. Mr. Wahid Basily planned a 14 days trip for us covering Cairo, Alexandria, Aswan, Luxor & Hurghada. He has been a fantastic service provider. The trip was very thoughtfully planned ensuring there are no hurdles or any inconvenience to us… The Egyptologists Makdy, Islam, Hany were amazing at their work and took good care of us and ofcourse Makdy 2 ( the chauffer) who was very patient and drove us all day long for sightseeing in Cairo. The trip was full of thrill and surprises planned for us since my birthday & anniversary coincided with our travel dates…Each and every destination we visited had a different set of experience and memories to it….

Mr. Wahid took care of everything under the sun for us to ensure we were enjoying our stay. The crew members of Sonasta Nile Goddess were very caring and warm and did everything to make us feel privileged. The surprise cake and the local song sung by them wishing us anniversary on the cruise was fantabulous and the best moment of our life…We were blessed to experience a perfectly planned holiday.

A BIG BIG Thankyou to Mr. Wahid all the Egyptologists, Tour Guides & Crew Members to make our every moment a most memorable one…..You guys are the best…. I pray to Allah to give you enough tourism to see the city sparkling again… Wish you all Good Luck…

EGYPT IS BEAUTIFUL & INCREDIBLE…. Its worth every penny spent!!!!!!!!!!

This review is long overdue for our tour in Egypt on December 2012. Just looking back at the photos and good memories we had, and remembers to write a review :-).

Wahid & Nagla from Royal Egypt Tours are very communicative throughout the tour planning by many e-mails prior to our visit. The tour they proposed was customized for our small group & well prepared for my old parents (80 & 72 years old back then) and my three young children (6, 9, 12 years old then).

Everything from the airport pick-up, Cairo & Alexandria city tours, overnight train ride to upper Egypt, Nile river cruise (on MS Jamila), hot air balloon ride, Felucca sail boat experience, and Abu Simbel visit were organized perfectly. A pair of wheel chairs for my parents were always available when needed. The tour guides we had at different interesting places were also very friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and informative.

We felt safe & protected the whole times. When we were at Alexandria, a small demonstration was about to break out during our lunch time not far away from the restaurant, but the tour guide was well prepared and we were guided away calmly back to Cairo away from the riot (we watched on TV in the restaurant and could hear the ambulance & police sirene as we moving away).

We got unfortunately left behind by our return home flight in Cairo (it was the airline fault and not the tour guide), but with only a short call to Wahid & Nagla, they returned back to the airport and quickly managed to get us a hotel nearby the airport with a special discount. That's a five stars customer oriented service!!!

Definitely highly recommended.

As experienced world travelers, my husband & I have researched and booked many fantastic private tours over the past twenty years. But our 5 day tour of Egypt arranged through Royal Egypt Tours was by far the most outstanding and memorable travel experience of our lives. All upfront planning was handled online with Wahid and Naglaa, who answered all of our questions promptly, and clearly detailed options and pricing. Do not be dissuaded by fear of traveling here. From our observation, the government is much more stable now, and there is an emerging sense of optimism and grater stability, especially with the completed expansion of the Suez Canal on Aug 6, 2015. We never once felt unsafe in Egypt, as we were with a Royal Egypt escort from the moment we arrived at the Cairo airport, until we checked in again for our return flight home. Best of all, Royal Egypt paired us with the most amazing tour guide we've ever had the privilege of knowing. Not only is Mohamed Zakaria (Zak) exceptionally experienced and personable, but he earned his degree in Archaeology. Zak's passion for - and knowledge of - ancient Egypt are extraordinary, and when combined with his archeological field experience, we benefitted from a much more informed and thrilling tour of the Giza Pyramids, Egyptian Museum, Philae, Luxor and Karnak Temples as well as several Pharaoh Tombs in the Valley of the Kings (including Tutankhamen!). We enjoyed a 3-day Nile cruise (from Aswan to Luxor) on the lovely ship "Minerva," and also opted for the incredible dawn Hot Air Ballon ride in Luxor over the Valley of the Kings.

Experiencing the wonders of Egypt is a must, and I can confidently and enthusiastically recommend Royal Egypt Tours to make this travel dream a reality.

Our trip to Egypt with Royal Egypt Tours was everything we had been dreaming about for years. We were especially touched by the personal service. We left Egypt feeling like we were leaving friends behind. We were met at the airport and whisked through Customs in no time. We had a guide and at a driver with us at all times, and felt totally safe and protected. They were willing to work with us to make changes to the itinerary so we were able to see and do everything we most wanted to do. The guide was so patient with my continually wanting to stop and take pictures. There is just so much to experience in Egypt, we are longing to return again in the near future and will definitely use Royal Egypt.

From the beginning of planning to the last moment in Cairo, the trip was wonderful. They worked with us on the places and activities we wanted in our 3 week vacation. Tours in in Cairo were informative, bypassing lines, and introduced us to the local people and culture. Travel by van, over night train to Aswan, flight to Abu-Simbel, sailing on Lake Nasser, Nile cruise to Luxor, Hot air balloon over the Valley of Kings and queens, flight to Sharm ash Shaykh, wonderful snorkeling diving and fun in immaculate beautiful hotel, trek to Mount Sinai and walk up the mount, Suez cannel, tours of Alexandria.... Our hotels were great, the guides were a wonderful group of Egyptians...Muslim, Coptic Christians, who were so well informed and willing to talk with us about antiquity and current life in this country. The food was a delectable array of local cuisine that was so memorable. We truly loved this trip and highly recommend this company...
