While we were at the Dead Sea area of Jordan we decided to take this easy walk. We loved the rock formations and colours. We didn't see much wildlife except the odd bird and a lizard. There were 4 stops along the way.

I was at this very prominent place, Herod himself is said to have soothed his pain before his death in the local hot springs. According to archaeological research, there was probably also a harbor here. So the alleged tyrant had a short distance to the other side of the Dead Sea. Going on the Dead Sea by boat is an unimaginable thing today. 😊
I never stopped here before, and however, I am quite sorry that there are no more places where the spring flows, i.e. the place where you can immediately rinse yourself with warm water after bathing in the Dead Sea (those hot springs spring up in the hills). And there is healing mud everywhere...
But I can recommend Zara springs to you if you happen to be there at the right time like me and you know how to overlook piles of garbage. I am quite good at it (one gets used to everything) and I actually liked it there.

It is a place where you enjoy the naturedly crafted scenery of sunshine reflections over the fuzzily reflexive surface of the Dead Sea. When pondering, the scenery is suitable for a slow sporty reflective walk. Better have a suitable walking/ hiking shoes on.

These are the coordinates 31°36'02.5"N 35°33'43.6"E in google maps. There is a metal railing on the dead sea side of the road to prevent cars from rolling down the hill. There will be a lot of cars parked with locals there on the side. Parking is free. There is an opening in the railing for people to go down the dead sea or you can just hop over the railing. There is also a fence just after the rail. The fence only blocks a part of the area. You can go down on either side of the fence. If not sure just ask the locals and they will point you in the right way.
Below there are spots where there is free dead sea black mud to apply on your body. there is also a small natural fresh round pool where you can wash off the black mud on your face.
When you come up cross the road. You will see a large house with heavy police security. Just next to the house you will see some area walled off with a fence on the walls. This area is where you have the free hot springs. Just next to this walled area there are some rocks with a narrow passage going up between the rocks and the side wall. Walk a few steps on the passage and you will see an opening in the wall. That is where you enter into the free hot springs. If not sure ask anyone where is hot water and they will point you.
Inside walk to the other end from the side and you will come up to the hot spring flows. You can enter the water from anywhere but be careful it is very hot so don't just jump in.

We visited this place for some minutes as it was one of the stops in our tour day.
The cliff allows you to observe the magnitude of the dead sea.
We didn't walk to the shore (as it seemed pretty far and it was windy), but we did watch the sunset.
If possible, make a stop here.
If not, you'll be alright.

After enjoying several days at Masada and Dead Sea resorts in Israel, I found crossing the Jordan to be a let-down. Geography has much to do with this. Where Jordan’s mountains cascade to the sea, the Israeli side has a flatter plain, before the mountains soar to the sky. The Jordan Valley is a seismic rift, River Jordan, Sea of Galilee, and Dead Sea lying at the base far below established sea level.
Leaving the car, as depicted in the accompanying photo, trash thrown into a ravine detracted from the view. Still, enjoying the mineral-rich Dead Sea from either country is an experience that I would enjoy again.

This is just a short walk along the cliff south from the panoramic complex. It might take 30 minutes to go there and back. It goes around a gully and gets you away from the visitor centre and gives you some good views of the cliffs and dead sea.

when you are at the panoramic Complex look for the amphietheatre the start is outside the south end and follow the trail and stop up at the cliff whenever this limestone and vulcanic rocks and forms fascinate you

There must once have been grand plans for the Zara Cliff Walk. I have seen it described as being made up of four segments, each over a kilometer long, with information boards at each way point, and a map and brochure available at the Dead Sea Panoramic Complex...
None of that is true.
At the Dead Sea Panoramic Complex, you will find a brochure about the complex itself, which mentions the Zara Cliff walk and tells you that "more information" can be found in the separate brochure about the cliff walk. Only, that does not exist. Staff initially appear baffled when you mention it. Eventually, they direct you to a path - a path that is nicely marked, easy to walk, and just about 200 meters long, before coming to an abrupt end as it approaches a fence. There are no signs, information boards, or other markers.
The Dead Sea Panoramic Complex, meanwhile, is a new building, hosting a handful of information boards and a cafe with a terrace. As a museum, it is somewhat limited in scope - you can run out of interest within 10-15 minutes.
All in all, I would not recommend anyone to go out of their way to visit or take the walk. Both fall far short of what you might expect: as if there had been grand plans, which were never fully realised.

The Zara cliff walk is worth taking as it gives a real feel of the land above the Dead Sea and some terrific views. The ground is stony and barren and there is not much animal life to see but keep your eyes open for unusual bird life. The path does not take you very far and you must return the same way – keep well away from the precipitous cliff edge!
