Ein Kerem (source du vignoble) est un petit village dans le sud ouest de Jérusalem. Connu pour son côté calme à quelques pas de Jérusalem, ses boutiques d'arts et d'artisanat et pour l'église saint Jean-Baptiste ou l'église de la Visitation. Vous pouvez aussi monter jusqu'au monastère russe orthodoxe visible avec ses coupoles dorées. Pour y aller, vous pouvez prendre le bus, ou y aller à pieds. Prenez le tramway jusqu'au terminus, traversez la route comme si vous alliez à Yad Vashem (qui est tout proche), mais prenez la route Ein Kerem (386). Là vous avez un abri bus qui vous emmènera au village ou descendez à pieds pendant 3/4 h environ.

Ein Kerem è un quartiere di Gerusalemme alta, situato su splendide colline a circa a 8 km dalla città vecchia. La sua nascita risale all’età del bronzo come dimostrato anche dagli scavi archeologici.
Secondo un'antica tradizione è il luogo dove vivevano Santa Elisabetta e suo marito San Zaccaria, e in cui nacque San Giovanni Battista. Nel vangelo di Luca il nome del luogo dove avvennero questi fatti non viene nominato, mentre si precisa che è una città della regione montuosa della Giudea.
Qui si può visitare la bella chiesa che venne edificata in onore di San Giovanni Battista. L'originale santuario fu costruito dai crociati ed in seguito distrutto dagli arabi di Saladino che lo trasformarono in un caravanserraglio. Nel XVII secolo fu restituito ai cristiani, ed i francescani iniziarono un'opera di recupero e restauro delle vecchie strutture. La chiesa attuale risale alla fine del XIX secolo.
Nel cortile si possono ammirare grandi quadri in ceramica, in tantissime lingue, con un brano evangelico dedicato a questo santo luogo.
Data la bellezza del luogo vi si possono trovare anche alcuni ottimi ed accoglienti ristoranti tipici.

When I signed up for this tour, I did not realize that the emphasis of the tour was on Christian history/churches. I would not have signed up for it

This village is associated with John the Baptist and Mary. However the whole area is like a leafy suburb with quaint shops and interesting walks. This is in addition to the religious sites here. You can reach the place by bus from central Jerusalem but most will come on tour,

This area is a picturesque park just outside of Jerusalem that holds special significance for Christians. Ein Kerem is said to be the birthplace of John the Baptist, who baptized Jesus in the River Jordan. The spring where the Blessed Virgin Mary drew her water is located here. The Church of the Visitation celebrates the visit of Mary to her cousin Elizabeth, mother of John the Baptist. Ein Kerem has some good places to eat, it's well worth a visit.

Jerusalem has many areas that are special, Ein Kerem is one of them, like a rural area in the midst of the city, but with attractions that need to be visited.
It is an area very much related to Christianity, the site of the birth of John the Baptist, the church of the Visitation, the Church of St John, the well of Myriam, and also good restaurants, a place that is a must visit in Jerusalem

обязательно для посещения туристов. но и местные приезжают погулять. есть парковка. ресторанчики (дорогие). и конечно же монастыри на любой вкус

It's Jerusalem outside of the city. A lot of tourists come here all over the year and you can hear so many languages around! You have some very good restaurants in the area.
