Another must-see when visiting Vegas. Stunning view from the lookout!
Sad to see how the waterline has receded from its normal levels due to less rain and higher water usage. However, it’s still an impressive sight to see.
Very easy to get to. Small parking area, but you’ll quickly get a spot due to the quick rotation of visitors.

A very extensive area where you can find not only the Mead Lake form based on the hoover dam creation but you can find as well a couple beaches, rivers, trails and access to the Hoover Dam too.

We were heading to Valley of Fire from Hoover Dam and ended up on this scenic road. You do have to pay to drive the road $25 per car, so be prepared. We didn't know we were going to be on this road, so we were caught by surprise. I took a point off because the lady at the entrance was rude to us. There were literally no cars around us, and she scolded us like children for not going to the correct line. I'm so sorry for holding up the non-existent cars everywhere! Anyway, despite that the road is very beautiful and it was worth the price of admission to drive it. There are places to pull off and take pictures as well.
Be aware that gas stations are scarce. We almost ran out of gas and had to go out of our way to find a station. When we did, it was $6 a gallon! Also, stop at the visitor centers for information and souvenirs. I'm so glad we drove this road. It was so beautiful

Απολαυστική δρόμοι, με εκπληκτική θέα από την κορυφή, η θερμοκρασία ήταν πολλή υψηλή και δεν μπορούσες να κάτσεις έξω για πολλή ώρα. Καταπληκτικό μέρος.

Great drive along Lake Mead while heading back to Las Vegas. The water level is rising but still low. Plenty of areas to stop for pictures or picnic.
The day we went it was very hot but the water was very blue & relaxing.

We drove through the park on the way to the Valley of Fire. What fabulous scenic drive we thoroughly enjoyed it! Quiet roads and beautiful scenic overlook. Amazing vistas.

The NRA campground was a good stop although the comfort station could have benefited from a little TLC. But it was quiet and restful.
We thoroughly enjoyed Hoover dam. Took the tour and checked out the visitor center. Found some good eateries in Boulder City.
It was a short drive to the Strip in Las Vegas.

Lake Mead National Recreation Area
Entered Lake Mead during a SW road trip with our RV March 2023 from the north heading south on 169 through Overton. The toll gate was temporarily closed. There’s loads of boondocking but it was not crowded. With the lake being so low, there’s another layer of parking opened up. We never did make it over the lake during our overnight stay. This is convenient to get to from I15. Hwy 169 is in good shape. So was the road down to the Overton Bay area. Easy to get to with the rig and places to turn around after the houses toward the water. There’s no shade or camping services. Be self-contained. Lots of donkeys and feral horses here.
We went into Valley of Fire State Park which was interesting. But even better was Northshore Drive continuing on Hwy 169 south toward Henderson. Gorgeous scenery and gorgeously made road, easy driving! There are several parking areas to stop and hike or just take a look. Hardly anyone here (they are all at Valley of Fire).
Stopped at the Lake Mead Visitor’s Center at Boulder Bay which was superb! Wonderful exhibits, friendly staff, and excellent selection at the gift shop. We will definitely be coming back to Lake Mead to rent a boat and stay longer and explore the hiking trails.

We'll be visiting at the early June. Looking to paddle board & Kayak, looking towards northern Lake Mead around Echo Bay/Overton area. Is it open?
Never been to the northern part of Lake Mead, but it looks like there are 2 marinas overton and echo bay]. Is there access to the lake in that area? are they open? If we stay in overton whats the closest point we could have beach access?
traveling with dog, so we need a house or cabin or small resort that accepts pets.
Any help would be appreciated.

Echo Bay will reopen beginning Memorial Day but service hours will be limited. Overton Beach has been and still is closed. The entire recreation area is mostly open to visitors but services are severely limited. So bring what you need. Kayak rentals are available at Willow Beach on the Arizona side heading south on Highway 93. Overton has a couple of trailer parks and a motel. Mesquite, Henderson and Boulder City are other options for losging.

My hasband and I are planning a weekend at Hoover Dam lodge and want to know what type of activities are available from there. We like hiking, biking and rafting. We would prefer not having to drive anywhere once we arrive. Looking for ideas.

It varies depending on which side of Lake Meade you are looking to go. It’s about an hour from Vegas if you stay on the Nevada side. If you drive another 30 mins or so you will pass over the Colorado River and through the Hoover Dam into Arizona and that part of the Lake Meade Rec Area. Your choice, can’t go wrong either way but I do recommend checking out the Hoover Dam if you are that close!

Has anyone gone from the strip to Lake Mead on to Hoover Dam and then on to West Grand Canyon? I am wanting to go to West Grand Canyon from Las Vegas and have heard on the same road I can see Lake Mead and Hoover Dam.

You certainly can see both on the way to the Grand Canyon but you will have to cross over the bridge and not the dam as this is no longer a through thoroughfare. Park up at the Bridge plaza and do the walk over it. The view is quite amazing. Enjoy

howdy. sorry cant answer that. most of what we do is camping at the boulder beach camp ground before we go hiking. its also my overnight destination before going to Las Vegas or one of the parks in Utah. 20 dollars a 24 hour period instead of 150 a night at the casinos. its a middle point from Anaheim California.

yup. lots. there is a designated area for RV with hook ups and such. close to where we stay at when we camp at boulder beach camp ground in the park itself. at the campground where we go is only 20 dollars with bathrooms for 24 hours. dont know how much at the RV area.
Is there is a place to rent a wave runner there on the lake?
I'm not from Nevada and I won't have a SUV rental neither to be able to hook one up and bring to the lake. Is there any options?

Yes I think we rented from the Las Vegas Lake Marina. About $90 an hour and it holds two people. Discounts the longer you take it.
They have new blue units but they have limited cargo space and are harder to handle then the white units which have plenty of room. Bring tons of water, snacks and a waterproof container for keys and phones. Something that floats.
You can dock the runners on tons of beaches and hang out, climb, swim, etc..
My kids loved it.
