I read about this beach in a wild Wales guide then read the reviews on here about raw sewage, it nearly put me off going. But we weren't planning to swim so took the risk.
I did see some kind of what looked like a poo in water but not completely sure, a crab was attached to it.
Ignoring the above this is a fab beach for exploration, family of 4 with 10 and 7 year old boys. Lots of rocks to climb and rock pools to explore. Went in for a shallow paddle. Views are beautiful. Sandy Hill at the end of the beach which the boys enjoyed rolling down. Beware not to get cut off on certain parts of the beach at high tide.
Have fun!

Went swimming in the sea beside Borth Y Gest yesterday - and only saw recent reviews today.
The water is clearly full of sewage and a serious risk to swimmers.
Despite being nearby, and a real shame given the bequtiful location but ...
I will need to read that this has been sorted out before returning to the beaches south of Borth or anywhere nearby.

Went swimming off the beach at Borth y Gest only to find myself among raw sewage. Access to beach is difficult, for bathing it really isn't a good place. Lovely for views and walking but don't swim.

I’ll start by saying there’s a lovely harbour and nice coves, with access to a nice looking beach.
However after my children were paddling in the water and keeping a eye on them I started to notice a number of suspicious looking objects floating passed. Some more poo looking than others. At 1st I thought it must be sticks, but as more time passed it was apparent it was human waste by the size and shape of it.
I did think it could of been someone doing something further up the beach in the water, but by this time, the amount of it, I concluded this would not have been the case.
I did walk further up the beach and found another stick like floating object and tried to confirm if it was indeed a stick by pressing it into the sea bed with my foot. Unfortunately it was no stick, and smeared / disintegrated on doing this…..
I have found on Google there is a sewage works in Porthmadog, possibly this is the source?
So a little disappointed on our find, but the actual coves and harbour was very nice.

Wonderful breakfast here. Try to pre book if you want a table outside (under canopy), as it’s very popular. Really lovely choice of breakfasts and great value too . They do lunch snacks and evening menus too .
Excellent service 🥰😊

We were recommended the Borth y Gest Beach by a friend and it turned out to be the highlight of our holiday!
Excellent series of 5 small beaches and bays next to the estuary - you can climb down the rocks or take the longer paths.
Lots of interesting geological rock formations including a dyke!
Safe rocks to scramble over.
A great spot we will be returning to.
Easy to park in the harbour village front - both free (if you are lucky) and paid parking.
Highly recommended.

This is a small harbour/cove with a few facilities. Walk from Porthmadog to Black Rock Sands and you'll be rewarded with lots of coves and beaches

Nice day out with the dog, enjoyed the clean beach and friendly atmosphere. There are some nice little coves tucked away if you want to go for a walk up the cost. Cafe is closed during October Mon & Tues.

Hi,
I spent my childhood with my grandparents taking me to both y guest beeches. I am now 36 with children of my own. We would all like to go together including my 80 year old grandfather. Their mobility is very much demonised and are unsure if they could get on the beech anymore ( we remember the paths were very steep). Does anyone know if there disabled access has been created on the paths or they are still as steep.
Regards

The beaches/coves around Borth y Gest are accessible via the coastal path which can be challenging in places. Nearby Black Rock Sands (Morfa Bychan) is much flatter and you can even park your car on it!

Hi. We have just booked to stay in a cottage at borth y gest overlooking the cove. I've heard it can be dangerous on the beach from sinking sand. Our dog likes to run around on the beach will he be safe and are dogs allowed on all year round. Thanks

We took our dog on the beach in the village opposite the church in September and as far as we know it is dog friendly all year round and we never had a problem with sinking sand.
