A fantastic piece of history!
sep. 2021
Having been to Artillery Wood and paid our respects at Evans grave, this completed the circle - the house where he was born.
The ladies at reception are helpful (even tolerating my school boy Welsh - sorry!) And informative. But the obvious star is Yr Ysgwrn - and THAT chair! If it is at all possible to ignore the significance of that chair, it is an amazing piece of work. Stunning.
And to think that Evans was one of 30 boys from Trawsfynydd who gave their lives in WW1?

Absolute brilliant.

We visited today and were absolutely delighted with all aspects of the experience. The ladies in the visitors’ centre were friendly and welcoming and , because my husband currently has difficulty walking, allowed us to drive up to the farmhouse . Had they not suggested this, he would have not been able to go to the farmhouse. The house itself is fascinating and our guide was fantastic. She was friendly and informative and clearly held Hedd Wyn , his story and his family in high regard. After our visit we enjoyed coffee and cake at the visitors’ centre . We really enjoyed our visit not only because of the historic and cultural significance of the farmhouse but also because it is run by such nice people.

Ymweliad hynod ddiddorol a chofiadwy. Diolch yn fawr i'r staff a'r gwirfoddolwyr am eu gwaith ardderchog ac am y derbyniad gwresog. Diolch yn arbennig i Glain, ein tywysydd ifanc, am gyfoethogi'r profiad drwy rannu ei gwybodaeth eang mor fedrus.

A highly interesting and memorable visit. Such a unique place of great historical significance.

Peaceful site to remember tragic poet
sep. 2020 • Par
Home of Hedd Wyn - the bard name given to Ellis Evans.
His fame is that of being given the Eisteddfod chair in the weeks after his death on the fields in Belgium in 1917.
Entry currently has to be booked - best by email.
Beautiful setting overlooking valley.
Spotlessly clean with hand sanitiser at each entry points and 1 way traffic.
Great films in Welsh with English subtitles telling his story.
Can get drinks etc and small gift shop.
Hedd Wyn house itself is a great and how it was 100yrs ago when he was alive and living there.
Can see all 5 bard chairs especially his famous "Black" chair
Staff friendly and informative

A great experience and a look into the past of the farmhouse where the Welsh poet lived who won the 4 Eisteddfod chairs and the black chair called because he died in war before he could be presented with it .(Edwin) the house is the same as it was when it was built

Car club visit

Took a group of Austin Healeys here late September. There was plenty of parking at that time of year. We were split into two groups and both the local lady guides were excellent. I learnt so much and I am fairly local. A wonderful attraction with a good cafe and in the most stunning location, so peaceful and beautiful. A story so emotional and so sad but beautifully handled. It illustrates the futility and loss of war.
Would recommend a visit with plenty of time to visit. Well done Snowdonia trust for preserving this place.

Great visit

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Hedd Wyn's home in Yr Ysgwrn, Llan Ffestiniog. I'm so glad that the farmhouse has been restored. It was very interesting to see the house and to sit on bales of hay in the shed to watch a film. The cafe was really nice too and a further film shown there plus there's a museum. Hedd Wyn's story is a very sad one. His poems were remarkable for a young shepherd who left school at 14. I highly recommend that you visit this Welsh bard's home. The views are quite breathtaking on a clear day.
