La chiesa di San Michele in borgo è una delle più antiche di Pisa. Fu costruita su un preesistente tempio dedicato a Marte ed è citata per la prima volta nel 1016 come monastero benedettino. Dopo il terremoto del 1846 e i bombardamenti della Seconda Guerra che sventrarono la chiesa salvandone solo la facciata in marmo nella parte inferiore possiamo ammirare i tre portali e dalle scritte di inizio XVII secolo che si riferiscono alla elezione del Rettore dell’Università . L’interno custodisce un bellissimo Crocifisso trecentesco attribuito a Nino Pisano, oltre ad affreschi e dipinti databili tra il XIII ed il XVIII secolo. Da visitare

Raggiungendo il BeB ci passavo sempre davanti così l'ho visitata. La facciata romanica, parte bassa, gotica, parte alta s leggette, ricorda.quella di S. Caterina d'Aessandria, fortunatamente ancora in piedi dopo l a guerra, unica parte originale della chiesa.
Il tabernacolo anche, all'interno, opera di Nino Pisano, al termine della navata centrale. Interno sobrio, con alcuni dipinti. E forse è proprio per questo aspetto che si fa apprezzare fin dall'anno 1000.

You pass by this beautiful church, in the center of the city, if you go towards the Tower through the historic center.
It is located inside Borgo Stretto just after Piazza Garibaldi.
The church is located on a churchyard two steps higher than the sidewalk level.
The predominant architectural style is Romanesque-Pisan with small Gothic influences.
The church, one of the oldest in Pisa and built on a pre-existing temple dedicated to Mars, is mentioned for the first time in 1016 as a Benedictine monastery, before passing to the Camaldolese monks.
The current building is the result of a series of changes also determined by calamitous events such as the earthquake of 1846 and the bombings of the Second War that gutted the church, saving only the marble façade, dating back to the 13th-14th century, one of the most spectacular. of the Pisan churches.
It is characterized in the lower part by three portals and by the writings of the early seventeenth century referring to the election of the Rector of the University.

Nel centro storico della città , passeggiando sotto i portici di Borgo Stretto, non può passare inosservata la bella facciata in stile romanico pisano della chiesa di San Michele in Borgo edificata intorno al 1000. La chiesa, col monastero fu appartenuto prima ai monaci Benedettini e dal XII secolo ai Camaldolesi, ed ha subito diverse ristrutturazioni, in particolare a seguito dei bombardamenti della seconda guerra mondiale anche se la bella facciata esterna risalente al XIII-XIV secolo, non fu abbattuta. All'interno interessante l'altare maggiore in marmo policromo settecentesco con la Madonna col Bambino e Santi,

Sono passata davanti al questa chiesa molte volte in passato ed oggi finalmente l’ho trovata aperta. Molto bella e suggestiva. Mille anni fa sorgeva, appena fuori dalla porta di Samuel, una Chiesa dedicata all’Arcangelo Michel. Nel 1016 vi fu istituito un monastero maschile ed ora è arrivata ai nostri giorni subendo alcune ristrutturazioni. La facciata è spettacolare.

...questa Chiesa di San Michele in Borgo si trova nel Borgo Stretto a Pisa...sono passata e era chiusa...poi ci sono tornata e fortunatamente ho potuto entrare a vederla!!...in stile romanico-pisano...all'inizio apparteneva ai monaci benedettini e poi al camaldolesi...nel tempo è stata varie volte rimaneggiata...anche dopo la seconda guerra mondiale per via dei bombardamenti che ha sùbito!!...la facciata comunque pare che sia quella originale...si leggono scritte seicentesche pare per i rettori dell'università dei tempi che furono...all'interno la Chiesa e' abbastanza scura e molto spartana!!...a tre navate con un altare in marmo policromo...comunque conserva delle importanti opere tra cui un Crocefisso in marmo di Nino Pisano e altri vari dipinti antichi!!...

Questa chiesa ha una lunga storia di trasformazioni architettoniche a partire dal 1300 fino alla ricostruzione del dopoguerra. Discorso valido per molte chiese della città , i pezzi più pregiati sono custoditi al museo di san Matteo.
