Our second visit to Paris for this evening. (Our previous visit happened to coincide with it but we missed it completely!)

We were able to see the parade from Place de la Concord as it passed by the Louvre. It was worth it - just to hear 'Scotland the Brave' being played by the pipe band as it marched past!

We were disappointed though that we couldn't find a map showing the locations of all the other events, so instead of staying up late, we went for a meal and then back to the hotel.

If there was a map showing whereabouts each event was, we could've made a night of it, so one star off.

The first problem accused was that it's impossible to find the list of events or museums opening hours. So when you think "white NIGHT" think of it as an "white EVENING" because most of the attraction close at 9:30 pm. Be careful and check several times to go somewhere, don't be late like us.

If you like the modern art shown in the Pompidu Museum in Paris then you will love this. If not, then its best to go back to your hotel and get some sleep - you will not get it.... Although it's hard to find information on what is going on for White Nights (the event is known as Nuit Blanche in Paris) beforehand, you will easily find flyers at the tourism locations and other places when you are there . The event occurs on the first Saturday in October, all throughout Paris. And it lasts from dusk until dawn. There will be displays in the streets and long lines to get into some of the buildings to see the modern art. Bands will play at different locations; typically for an hour, max....We stood in line for 1/2 an hour just to be given a piece of red, black and white paper; and was told to crumble it up and throw it on a pile (this was in a building near the Pantheon- see photo). This is modern art.... Exhibitors had a multi-piece wood structure that resembled whale ribs and the artists kept taking pieces from the ends and kept rebuilding it on the other; keeping all pieces of wood balanced (see photo)..That display kept moving down the street...... At another location had a display of sight and sound. People waited in line to stand in the middle of multiple towers of flashing lights that changed color with different odd sounds.... The streets were filled with people walking around to see many different displays; more people than during the day.... The metro is open all night so you can go from one side of the city to the other....But even with the metro you will not see everything, so I recommend that you find a flyer to decide what you want to see and then plot your course.......Other tid bits: Metro ticket booths can be selected for English - and download the Metro RATP app to your smartphone before you travel to Paris - its very useful.......And the Parisians are very nice.... Just remember to say bonjour first, wait for them to reply back, and then ask your question....and you should have no problem getting around.
