Fascinating and beautifully restored domestic example of Thomson’s skill and imagination. The informative guide was very helpful and skilfully handled the wildfire questions from the 8 year old in our small group. I did wonder if it wouldn’t be better to view the 5 minute video before the tour rather than after but otherwise it was an interesting visit. There’s plenty of outdoor walks available too. The little cafe looks nice but it’s only drinks and cakes and you’ll struggle to find anywhere nearby for lunch. It would be great if they could put on sandwiches or sausage rolls/pasties as well as cakes and I’m sure they would generate more income for the trust.

Wonderful place to visit particularly now fully restored by the National Trust. A truly impressive internal and external restoration of a family home built in 1857 by Alexander Greek Thomson. The external design is interesting for while built in the style of Greek architecture it is asymmetric and connected by a wall to the Stable Lodge both ‘extending the grandeur of the building’ and settling it into the landscape. The interior is simply exquisite. The restoration excels in so many ways. What I loved particularly was simply how the boldness of Thomson’s colours had been brought to life again. We arrived early so thoroughly enjoyed soaking up the atmosphere of the house before having a really excellent informative tour of the property by a member of staff. Not to be missed. Absolutely inspiring visit with an enjoyable circular walk through Linn park via Halfpenny Bridge and Snuff Mill bridge after.

What a lovely house that the Scottish National Trust are looking after, in the heart of Glasgow that not a lot of people are aware of. Designed by the amazing "Alexander "Greek" Thomson"! There is not a lot of furniture but the detail inside is amazing, with all of the restoration taken place. Little tour by Grace who just loves what she does, shines from her. Cafe is fine for tea, coffee and cakes but no savouries for lunch.

We had planned to visit Pollok House, today, but it is closed for a wedding. Coming to Holmwood House instead was a real win for us! We took a guided tour at 11am with another couple. Our guide was Abigail - just brilliant. She was so knowledgeable, explaining the history and context of the house and the area, and explaining the restoration that has taken place. The house is beautiful. We live locally and hadn't visited for ages, but must return sooner.

Holmwood is a real jewel in the crown of Scottish National Trust - and has a lot to teach the English National Trust. We saw it years ago when they rescued it and it was near-derelict, and its regeneration to the highest possible standard is a wonder. Its redecoration is so amazing that you would love to live there ! It also has very friendly and informed staff who bring the property and the story of its transformation to life if you didn't know it when you arrive. Definitely not to be missed when you visit Glasgow, and well worth visiting Glasgow just to see Holmwood !

Holmwood House has been carefully restored by the National Trust for Scotland, to a very high standard. There is a lot of good explanatory information about Alexander "Greek" Thomson and his work. It's definitely worth a visit. The staff were really helpful and welcoming. I have only one criticism - the cafe didn't serve anything for lunch, only tea, coffee and cakes.

We have lived less than 5 miles from this amazing House for over 30 years and was never aware of its existence. No words can describe the beauty of it, both outside and inside. Is has been restored by experts who clearly love the house and MUST be seen to understand what a jewel in Glasgow's crown, Holmwood House is. My husband and I were given an excellent Tour of the House by young Robert, a Volunteer, who clearly LOVED describing , not only the architecture , but the Interior decoration, the furniture and the fascinating History of the property from its inception. We had an excellent Sunday Afternoon Tea in the gardens, served by several of the lovely ladies of the Staff, who couldn't have been more helpful.
This is a MUST for anyone proud to be a Glaswegian but PLEASE take the Tour or the whole point of the house is missed. Many thanks for a wonderful experience , we will certainly be back, very soon.
