We visited this Church whilst having a holiday in Cambridgeshire. There were a number of interesting features to admire, such as the 214-foot Spire, the Stained Glass Windows, Murals and Wooden Statue of the Virgin Mary. Admission was free.

Officially, it's "The Church of Our Lady of the Assumption and the English Martyrs". Impressive Roman Catholic church on the edges of the city centre in Cambridge. Normally it's free to visit, but they were preparing some kind of church function the day I was visiting, so I could only a have a brief look around before they threw me out (They do that at Catholic churches, apparently), but what I saw was enough to recommend it to visit the building when you're in Cambridge.

This is a very nice classical Gothic Church which was near our hotel. It's open daily for prayer and / meditation. Definitely worth stoping by if you're in the neighborhood.

The Church of Our Lady and the English Martyrs, Cambridge ist eine wunderbare Kirche. Eintritt war frei. Drinnen relativ schön. Altar und Organ ist das Beste, was man hier anschauen kann. Es lohnt sich zu besuchen.

The Church of Our Lady and the English Martyrs in Cambridge is a majestic Neo-Gothic church just outside of the touristy centre of the university city. Built in the late 18th century, the exterior features a tall central lantern tower spire and expansive finials of angels and gargoyles. The latter are of particular note as many have long tongs reaching out as if to threaten a passerby.
Inside, notable features are the polygonal apse, stained glass windows and the ciborium at the high altar. The stained glass depicts not only events from the bible, but also dedications to the colleges of Cambridge. The steep gables of the ciborium are lined with sculptures of angels, creating a beautiful scene of an ascent to heaven. Definitely worth getting close up to the altar to see these features.
Befitting the dedication of the church are two wonderful sculptures of Mary, one on the right of the south transept of Mary holding the infant Jesus, and the other at the Narthex. The latter is a delicately carved scene of Mary crowned in heaven. Absolutely stunning craftsmanship.

I was surprised to see a clock on the outer walls of this Roman Catholic church. Interesting to see some medieval creatures forming part of the architecture. possible to frighten off evil spirits??? Peaceful interior.

I went to church on Sunday morning and I found the atmosphere very immersive and one feels very rested and spiritual. The decoration is fabulous and very well done. I recommend it to all people who want to meditate during their holidays and even for those who just want to discover the architecture. You will also be able to find a place to deposit donations for associations that are in need. Do it they are in need of our donations!

Our Lady and the English Martyrs towers majestically over the southern entrance to Cambridge. It is one of the largest Catholic churches in the U.K. and has the dimensions, weight and height suggestive of a cathedral. It was built between 1885 and 1890 in the High Gothic style and has stained glass windows depicting dedications of Cambridge colleges and the lives of the English Catholic martyrs of the Reformation, but St. John Fisher in particular. The interior is built of Bath stone and Plymouth marble. The spire is 214 feet tall. It was remodelled in accordance with the dictates of Vatican II in 1973 by the improbably named Gerald Goalen of Harlow (presumably not to be confused with Robert Referee of Milton Keynes).

Free to enter, this landmark is found on the Regent Street crossroad. Terrifically ornate and exuding grandeur both inside and out. Very gothic features. Sadly you can hear the hustle and bustle of traffic outside and especially during rush hour, it is not so peaceful as one might expect. Aside from that, it’s wonderful.
