Jesus Green is an interesting place. It is a huge lawn. Many people play football, Frisbee, baseball and other sports on the lawn. Others lie under the tree. Everyone is so energetic and casual, making the whole scene full of sense of loose and liveliness. As a summer school student, I also played football and Frisbee on the lawn. It was great fun. Anyone can enjoy themselves on it, including Cambridge students, residents and tourists. No people manage the order, but the order is very good. It’s a park and a playground, but it have great difference from the playgrounds or parks in China.
As a playground, it doesn’t have runway, rostrum, or other facilities. There is a only huge lawn. Maybe they have independent football field. But most college only have lawn for students to do sports. No runway to test their running score. No rostrum to supervise them or command them when necessary. Just the pure sports, exercise and relax. It demonstrates the freedom of British students. Besides, there isn’t such a big and free lawn for students to use in Chinese university campus. In my university, students even cannot use the playground free to play football and the lawn is very bad without maintenance. What a pity!
Compared with China’s park, Jesus Green is also interesting. In China, you can hardly find such a big lawn in Chinese parks. The total size of Chinese parks is no smaller than Jesus Green. But most of the land in the park are used to make different landscape, including trees, flowers, nursery, roads, bridges, pavilions, and other facilities that the planner think to be beautiful and useful. The design of the park are often much more complicated in China. It has both advantages and disadvantages. On one hand, the complex design of the park make the park more beautiful, have more diverse scenery, hold more functions, and maybe bring more profits. On the other hand, It also cause the available land for people to shrink, and it cost more money to build the complex landscape. What does citizens need and want most? The various landscape or more space and more freedom to play sports and relax themselves? Is the complex design of the park becoming a formalism? Is it reflect the different way to relax between Chinese and Cambridge citizens? Is it related to the age structure of population nearby? Watching the British enjoying the sun and grass, I fell into thoughts...
(Maybe there are parks in China like this one in the suburbs far from city center. But I haven't seen a park like this in city center or suburbs near city center in China. )

A lovely large area of greenspace with areas of meadows perfect for local wildlife as well as areas where the grass is kept short, perfect for picnics, ballgames, and other such activities.
There's lots of benches that are nice to just sit and enjoy the area, including onces facing towards the river Cam which is lovely.
There's plenty of paths interspersed through the park, too, for a leisurely stroll or a jog or even cycle.
Overall, it is just a lovely large park that can be enjoyed by everyone

It’s so lovely seeing green spaces in cities and this park seems extremely popular. Lots of people having picnics, drinking or exercising.

Canterbury is blessed with so many green parks in such a small area.
Jesus green is amongst the better ones with plenty of shady trees dotted about.
Only detraction are the amount of rubbish about.

Beautiful open outside space. Lots of benches and areas for barbecues.
Beautiful walk along the river cam with places to get refreshments. With a play park for kids, tennis courts and the lido there really is something for everyone :-)

Absolutely disgusting. I have bladder issues and it’s such a cheat that people have to pay to use them, next time I’ll squat outside the bathrooms n just go, it’s so wrong in society.

Jesus Green Park – ein großer Park. Sehr schön und man kann hier sich ausruhen. Natürlich kann nicht ein Kinderspielplatz fehlen.

Sorry for the delay in answering your question, if you are travelling at this time of year it will not be busy at all, I didn't notice a huge crowd in that area when I visited , so my guess would be that it is comfortably busy in the summer, hope your enjoy your stay.

Hi are there grass tennis courts there and do you have to book them. I have a cousin who has come from abroad and wants to play tennis on a grass court. Many Thanks

Sorry this is so late but I am afraid I do not know if there are any Tennis Courts. There are several "Greens" around the centre of Cambridge and no doubt one of them will have courts.
