Caminata nocturna muy especial

Descubrimos Finca Cántaros gracias a Roberth, nuestro estupendo anfritión de AirBnB en San Vito. Nos animó a que participáramos en la caminata nocturna que hacen semanalmente y fue todo un acierto. Habíamos hecho otra caminata nocturna muy chula en Monteverde pero ésta fue menos "comercial" y más auténtica. Randall y otros voluntarios de la finca compartieron sus grandes conocimientos con nosotros y pudimos observar la naturaleza con respeto y tranquilidad (más de 3 horas...)
No hay tarifa de admisión, sólo donación y nos prestaron botas de agua. Finca Cántaros cambió de dueña en 2020, siguen rehabilitando la zona y además haciendo una impresionante labor de educación medioambiental.
La zona no es muy turística pero mereció la pena ir y ver la labor de esta asociación. ¡Vayan a apoyarlos!

Rainforest Restoration and Community Involvement at Finca Cnataos

We are ex-pat residents of Panama and decided to cross the nearby border into Costa Rica and visit the town of San Vito. Finca Cantaros is 2 km from the town center, walking distance from town. Reservations are required which were easy to make via email. Admission fee is by donation only. We received an excellent tour of about one hour by Randall Jimenez, a staff member. It helped very much that one of us speaks fluent Spanish and the rest of us have a beginner-intermediate command of Spanish. If you speak only English you can still enjoy the natural beauty of the site but will miss out on the depth gained by learning the history and mission of Finca Cantaros.
After Randall's tour we were turned lose to hike the beautiful grounds that encompass a wetlands full of bird, amphibian and insect life, a 30 year old restored rainforest teaming with trees, flowering plants and vines, more birds, small mammals, and butterflies, an amazing tropical tree and plant greenhouse that is the most productive I have ever seen and run on a shoestring, and the impressive rainforest restoration project the community children are creating.
Finca Las Cantaros is committed to involving the local community in their ecological mission and that shows throughout the beautiful grounds. We hiked for a few hours and dug deep into the details of this wonderful site. Oh, and the frosting on the cake: petroglyphs and a commitment to honoring the native ancestors of this beautiful area of Costa Rica.

Excelente servicio, buenos precios,los jardines muy limpios todo excelente ,hay una tienda para comprar artesanias indígenas y muchas cosas más de san vito

Wonderful place, drove by it the first time, the main attraction was rained out. So we stopped here and Wow! Its beautiful, the. Couple that greeted us were so helpful!! Jay gave us a breath taking tour, OMG this place is so worth a visit!

One of the premier places to visit in the San Vito area. Some very rare endemic birds, lovely collections of plantings. Nice little gift shop full of high quality handmade crafts.

Es una finca pequeña. Tienen un recorrido agradable. Personal muy amable, en especial el joven que estaba encargado del mantenimiento porque nos mostró el ave que se camufla con los árboles.

Truly a birder's paradise

This is a private finca just outside of San Vito that is open to tourists and birders for a very modest fee. There is a delightful little curio shop with local crafts and cards. The caretakers are birders and love the area. They also provide great guide services when asked. Lilly, the new owner is a charming scientist who is excited to take over this birder's mainstay of the San Vito area. If you're a birdwatcher, all the locals will tell you not to miss Finca Cantaro!

A Special Place

Finca Cantaros was a real surprise for us. The gardens and walking trails were well tended and have a large and diverse array of plant specimens. Even though the area is going through a unusual "dry spell", many of the plants were flowering at the time of our visit I can only imagine how incredible it must be in the green season. They have many nice little trails and areas to sit and enjoy the birds and beautiful views.
The gift shop has some very nice local art and crafts for sale.
I highly recommend a visit for a couple of hours. Also great for kids.

Cantaros expwctacular

El Parque Biológico Finca Cántaros es un sitio que toda persona debería visitar. Sitio arqueológico que nos da una visión más amplia de la cultura indígena que habita la zona. Excelentes vistas de San Vito de Coto Brus. Su anfitriona súper amable.

Lovely gardens, good value

The gardens are fairly compact and don't take too long to walk around. However, they are beautiful and the range of plants is stunning.
